Interview with Children of Bodom: Alexi Laiho, Janne Wirman

these Finnish meddlers are at home on
the road and have the international
fanbase to prove it
hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with Children of Bodom what was this
scene like where you guys were growing
up when you started with like this kind
of metal and I was all really
underground so basically it was really
hard to get gigs or and it’s sort of
exposure in media or whatever and so
we’re just running around on and selling
our demo tapes or whatever like just
hoping that somebody will buy that for
like three bucks or whatever it was kind
of a kind of a big Saint though and then
somehow I know we got lucky enough to
get a record contract and oh that’s when
things started rolling
who are what made you pick up your
instruments originally my parents put me
to piano lessons when I was 5 years old
so I don’t know who I was expired at the
time because I was a little kid and
didn’t understand shit about anything
are there any keyboardist that you
really look up to yeah then later on
when I when I joined a metal band and
realized that there is keyboards in
metal I’ve always looked up to yes hello
handsome who used to play with angry and
then later on this Finnish band
Stradivarius he’s always been my like
the inspiration when it comes to metal
keyboards
well in for me it’s been like probably
Steve I he’s like my biggest hero like
ever because this is just insane
wait good pretty much all the dudes who
played for Ozzy like rhino Rhodes Jacob
and Zach while definitely I’ve had a lot
of you know influenced am i playing Paul
Gilbert’s you know stuff like that do
you guys play anything else that we
might not know her I used to play drums
I haven’t enough live done for years but
now I’m trying to pick up my granddad
who passed away a couple years ago
played the accordion and we just
recorded some cover song and I played
the accordion a couple oh this one track
and it was pretty cool and I’ve I’m like
I’ve been thinking I want to pick up
their accordion just as a as I washed my
granddad
I used to be pretty good at the drums
too but I haven’t really haven’t done in
like yours either
pretty much anything with strings I
could learn easily but one thing that I
do not know how to do is play keyboards
for a piano I just suck at it
how do you guys respond to the kind of
ongoing debate there is about what genre
you are or do you kind of just shine
John results given well we kind of have
to you know I mean it’s really it can be
really categorized and we’re in the
labels so we just call it metal I mean
after the levels were pretty unnecessary
in a way so that
thank you very much guys thank you
