Interview with August Burns Red

these guys helped pave the way for
metalcore and have the fanbase to prove
it
hi I’m Rebecca Braden and welcome to
watchmojo.com and this year we checked
out Warped Tour where we spoke with
Brent from August Burns Red to find out
how his band differs from other bands in
their genre
if there was an August Burns Red motto
what would it be
we always try and have as much fun as
possible on stage that’s fire our
biggest motto on this tour especially we
got 40 minutes of fun and the rest of
the day is sitting around we just try to
go out there and have a blast but we’ve
always been that way just like put on
the best show we possibly can and just
entertain the crowd and entertain each
other
if you were forced to label your music
how would you do that everyone just
calls us a metalcore band and that’s
fine that’s what we are so we’ll leave
it at that might a lot of bands that I
interview really do not like having like
a definitive easy you know one word
label
well everyone tries to think they’re
like ingenious and original and like the
makers of their genre or something like
that but in all reality everyone always
that someone has done it before you and
that’s that so we are another chord
do you find that there are a lot of
misconceptions about your band common
misconception is that we’re going to go
out there be layered in tattoos and be
wearing all black and have long flat
ironed hair and that’s just this is not
what we do you definitely don’t look
like most of the people I have
interviewed today oh good you look like
you’re going golfing yeah I would love
to
you guys consider yourselves a Christian
been like we just say that we’re all
Christians in the band we grew up as
Christians and I think just a matter
from Lancaster Pennsylvania very
conservative area pretty much I’d say
80% of people who come out of there grew
up in Christian homes and we as we went
to the same high school happen to be
friends so which is kind of a natural
thing when a Christian label came up to
us we weren’t like you know we were just
like you’re a big label sure have you
encountered any problems because of that
label the only place it ever has a
stigma is over in Europe they’re just
they’re very used to Catholicism as like
the main form of Christianity over there
and a lot of people just have a bad
taste in their mouth because of I guess
stuff that’s happened in the past or
whatever but for the most part we do
really well in Europe and it’s never
really held us back but we definitely
when we go to Europe the interviews are
pretty strictly like about our
Christianity and less about the band
which is kind of weird and like it’s
come to the point where like we just
start screening interviews before they
actually happen when we go overseas just
so we don’t get stuck in a hour-long
religious debate yeah
thank you very much
you’re walking
you
