with disparate influences that include
Abba and Peter Gabriel this duo has
crafted a memorable and unique sound hi
I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with ash koley about their album
inventions and about their writing
classes on your mind you like to wear an
upside down so tell us about inventions
what we’ve guys going for on that oh
well you know we we met five years ago
we wrote a lot and then after two years
we wrote me an inventor and for that was
a turning point for us so after Mary the
inventor all the songs on the record
were written plus many more and we felt
that we really found our sound
everything’s start to just snowball
after that because aren’t we married the
inventor both Anna both Ashley this is
it this is who we are you know wow we
finally were able to reproduce into
music our personalities what is the
writing process like between you two
Phil you know he’ll write a song he’ll
email to me most the time by there’s
barely any at times I don’t really like
it but I always loved it then i go to
winnipeg and we record it and then i
guess my voice would replace his voice
from what he sent me and then we just
sort of kind of go from there and
sometimes will change stuff sometimes a
lot of stuff once she replaces my voice
the song takes on an entirely new
personality and it becomes our song and
then we start retooling infant and
adding and taking away to make it as
good as song as both of us feel it can
be
what do you guys like to write about you
know I think for the most part lyrics
are just everyday life it’s it’s
whatever ash and i are going through we
tend to put it down on paper ash and i
have been working together now for five
years so our experiences are starting to
intertwine so we’re starting to
experience the same things on a daily
basis so i think for us whatever we
write lyrically it’s important that
we’re just putting our personalities
forward sometimes it’s not maybe us
maybe we’ll read about something or
someone who’s going through something
and then that for some reason is just
resonating with us and we we are somehow
trying to relate so then maybe we’ll
write something about it are you guys
working on any new material yeah yeah we
were reading stuff we were listening to
yellow in the car yesterday in someone’s
they did some really tiny thing in the
song I just lit bulbs in us it was just
like oh my god you know so I can’t wait
to get home and start working on it like
the creative process doesn’t really go
away whether you’re doing you’re doing
the business side of the music career or
the creative side it’s just never stops
thanks very much guys thank you
