How to Interpret Tire Wear

tire wear can be a good indicator of
problems with your car’s steering
suspension and tire pressure hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’ll be showing
you how to interpret tire wear tires
should be replaced roughly Every 40
thousand miles but this number varies
depending on what kind of car you have
and what kind of driving you do have a
professional check your tires if you’re
not sure they need to be replaced when
you are doing yourself is best to check
your tires outside where the lighting is
good make sure you look at all four
tires as they should all wear evenly to
check the tread wear use a tread depth
gauge the depth of the tread should be
even on all parts of the tire if you
notice there is where down the middle
but not on the sides let some air out of
the tires because they are overinflated
conversely if there is more where on the
sides than in the middle re inflate them
a bit if the tires are more worn on one
side than the other you’ll need to bring
your car into the shop for an alignment
adjustment by running your hand over the
treads of the tires you can check to see
if they feel bumpy the tread may still
be deep however if you find they are
bumpy you may need new shocks or struts
to keep up with tire wear check the tire
pressure every month the proper pressure
for your car can be found in the owner’s
manual stamped on the side of the tire
or print it on a sticker on the driver’s
side door jamb 32 pounds per square inch
is a good average to use until you can
consult these other sources remember
staying on top of your tire wear can
help prevent other problems in your car
as well so don’t neglect to look at your
wheels
