hi I’m Leslie and welcome to
watchmojo.com today we’re going to be
talking about grooming with my co-stars
Luca and calmer now grooming is
something that’s very important for all
breeds of dogs no matter what kind of
dog you have no matter what size
grooming is something you really have to
take into account now you can generally
find an inexpensive groomer in your area
not every groomer needs to be over a
hundred dollars in fact I found a great
groomer in my area that’s just forty
dollars and you can too so it’s very
important that you do that if you can’t
take care of the grooming yourselves and
very often even if you’re a very good
and conscientious pet owner grooming is
something that becomes a little too
difficult especially in the case for
example of Luca and Palmer they’re both
part poodle and they both have very
thick undercoats and the great news
about them is that they’re
hypoallergenic so therefore grows and
grows and grows the bad news is their
first grows and grows and grows so you
really have to do something about that
not even necessarily for you but for
them you’ll notice under luca’s arms she
has a lot of hair and if you don’t cut
the hair here she’ll get little
dreadlocks under her armpits I don’t
know about you but I wouldn’t like to be
walking around with little dreadlocks
under my armpits now here are some
things that you can do at home and that
you should always be doing even if you
do take your dog to a groomer you always
want to be brushing their teeth I know
you’re saying to yourself I don’t want
to stick my hand in my dog’s mouth but
that’s why it’s important when they’re
puppies to teach them about soft biting
you’ll notice look I can put my entire
hand and fist Luca eat me she won’t she
just won’t so when dogs are taught is
popping is it that human skin is
something fragile they will not bite you
you know she might get a little
aggressive and try and bite the
toothbrush but she’s not gonna hurt you
and it’s not something you need to do
often but it’s something that is
important to do on a fairly regular
basis and another thing that’s great
that will help with tooth maintenance is
you can feed your dog I feed my dog
they’re their regular food is a high-end
Purina brand I get from the veterinarian
but I mix it in with a third of another
brand that I got from my veterinarian
it’s good for four teeth care there are
also some good brands of
attique cleaning little bones and stuff
but like I said even if you do that it’s
still really good to brush your dog’s
teeth now what else you should have a
brush at home now not a human brush a
special doggy brush that goes over their
hair and generally if you start doing
this when dogs or puppies they’ll learn
to like brushing they’ll find it very
very soothing and that’s something great
that you can do and you can help to keep
their hair from getting matted in
between visits to the groomer you
shouldn’t have to go to the groomer more
than once every six weeks even if you
have a dog whose hair grows very very
quickly another thing that I would
really recommend is when your dog is a
puppy teach them that it’s okay to take
a bath teach them that it’s not that you
don’t need to be afraid of water some of
you may find this disturbing but when I
need to wash my dogs I just caught my
hands when I’m in the shower they jump
in I shampoo my hair and then shampoo
them so I mean if dogs are taught from a
young age that it’s not something they
need to be afraid of they won’t be
afraid of it generally dogs who really
have a big problem with water because
they’ve had a bad experience with it or
they’ve just never gotten used to it so
just to reiterate it’s very important to
take your dog to the groomer it doesn’t
need to be expensive but in the interim
while you’re not taking your dog to the
groomer you can do some upkeep yourself
by brushing your dog’s coat brushing the
dog’s teeth and you can even clean their
ear a little although I would say use a
cotton ball don’t go in there with a
q-tip because like with human ears you
can do damage you don’t know how far
you’re going to go so I think those are
some things that are great then you can
do in between and they do everything at
the groomer these days and if you start
your dog early then they won’t be afraid
of it and it’ll be great and you can
have good dogs with happy summer
haircuts like Palmer and Luca this has
