How to Check a Car’s Transmission Fluid

check your car’s automatic transmission
fluid monthly this only takes a few
minutes but can increase the lifetime of
your car considerably park your car on a
level surface and start the engine
leaving your gear and neutral or park
unless instructed otherwise in your
owners manual find the ATF dipstick
located at the back of the engine it
looks similar to the engine oil dipstick
but is the shorter of the two pull at it
removing the instrument entirely wipe
the dipstick with a rag then insert it
back in the engine all the way remove it
again study the tip do you see two
different markings there’s one say cold
and once a warm check worn if the ATF
does not reach the full line add fluid
to the hole that dipstick came out of
use a long narrow funnel adding a little
ATF at a time you’ll find it easier to
add fluid than to remove it place the
dipstick back when you’re through your
car does not use up automatic
transmission fluid so if you’re low your
car may have a leak
