your car’s coolant needs to be changed
every one to two years depending on the
type of climate you live in hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’ll be showing
you just how easy it is to change your
radiator fluid there are two steps to
changing the radiator fluid start with a
cold engine and open the radiator cap
while under the front of the car look at
the bottom of the radiator and find a
t-shaped bolt or small plug this is
called the drain or sometimes the
radiator petcock you’ll need a pan large
enough to hold roughly five gallons
place this container beneath the
radiator before opening the drain
with your hand or an appropriate sized
wrench
allow the liquid to drain into the pen
and close the drain now that your
system is empty you can add coolant and
burp the cooling system using a funnel
pour a mixture of 50 percent antifreeze
and 50 percent water into the radiator
until it is full with the radiator cap
off turn on the engine and run it until
the radiator burps air pockets may be
trapped in the tank and you’ll notice
the level of coolant will drop and
possibly an air bubble will surface be
sure to watch the temperature gauge
while you are burping the system since
the coolant level is dropped refill it
as necessary and replace the cap on the
radiator after this procedure if you
notice the engine is running hot add
more coolant it is possible another air
pocket burped be sure to follow these
easy steps every one to two years as the
car’s coolant is the most important part
of the car’s cooling system
