History Of The MINI

this car is considered an icon of the
60s and still graces the roads today
hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’ll be
learning more about the history of
Minnie
so tell me about the minis history when
and where did the brand start it’s our
50th anniversary this year so we started
50 years ago the brand was created by
Sir Alec Issigonis in England at a time
when they had a fuel crisis and it was a
suez crisis with the petrol there was no
real small cars in those days so the
concept of the mini was really
revolutionary back then where did and
where does the mini fit in the market
most customers that come to purchase or
des drive Amenia they’re not really
looking at anything else out in the
market they truly want a mini for the
core values of what the mini is you know
which is about driving the car having
pleasure but it’s also a car that’s very
environmentally friendly it’s a
class-leading car as far as fuel economy
in the market there’s a lot of small
cars in the market but the true premium
luxury car were pretty well on our own
what is revolutionary about the Mini
when it was introduced that main
revolution was the fact that it was
front-wheel drive but also because there
was so much space for such a small
package so we’ve been able to recreate
that in a more updated package because
obviously the safety regulations are
very different so the car is larger but
it’s still the same concept now I know
we’ve seen this car in popular culture a
few times can you give us a few examples
yeah well obviously we had the Italians
of the original which is part of the pop
culture I think that started a
revolution and what made the car so
well-known and we’ve had the new movie
that came out in 2002 2003 it was very
much in the spirit of the of the car
itself where you know you zoom in and
out and it’s a handling car
if she looked back at the past also you
know the designer of the miniskirt also
was involved with the meanie and was a
bit of an inspiration for her to to have
that current when that came out was all
the same times also and who drives a
mini that’s a very very tough question
because we we have them from all kinds
of backgrounds we have young people
obviously that do enjoy the car but we
have the nostalgic which used to own the
old mini or knew somebody that owned one
and they want to recreate that feeling
they remember I think it’s more about a
mindset so it brings out the emotions
and the people we’ve seen a lot of
iconic British cars being owned by
foreign companies how do you think that
this has affected the MINI brand if at
all it’s a lot of history for us and
we’re very proud that we’ve been able to
maintain also those British roots all
the minis are built at plat Oxford in
England so there’s a lot of British
nests in the car even if it’s owned by a
German car manufacturer right now we try
to to keep that close thank you very
much very welcome thank you very much
