scientists are very scared the military
are getting scared the next American
government that is say under mr. Obama
will be collectively scared at last some
say climate change could end the world
as we know it but what happens before
that end could be even more catastrophic
hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with journalists gwynne dyer about
climate Wars you’re saying that the
climate change is the single most
important problem that we’re going to
deal with what climate change does first
what global warming does most of all in
terms of what’s important human beings
has cut into the food supply well you
know you have to eat it’s not negotiable
if countries are facing really serious
food shortages starting to go hungry
really bad things that bad things happen
inside those countries bad things happen
on the borders as people try to find
somewhere else to go and sometimes bad
things happen that even involve war so
that’s where you have to look next if we
get too deep into the warming process so
much of this political upheaval will be
going on that’s going to be very hard to
make any kind of international deal on
getting the emission style which is
after all how you fighting Lee solve
this problem in your opinion have we
done anything up to date that has helped
we basically wasted 10 or 15 years that
we could have been working on getting
the emission style and that’s gone you
don’t get it back you’ve got to get out
of fossil carbon ultimately you got to
get out of it completely there’s no room
for half-measures here you get out of
and half way you just didn’t do sort of
extend by 10 or 20 years the point where
you hit really desperate problems the
technologies exist that we can replace
coal and oil and gas with they’re not
you know sort of will develop a real
prototyping wheel test and we’ll scale
it up and you can have it in 15 years
they’re there on the shelf not the wind
wills are there the nuclear power is
there we know how to do this stuff solar
power is pretty well up to you know sort
of commercially available competitive
levels why aren’t people yet
to live in a carbon-neutral society they
think it would be disastrously expensive
and would force them to change their
lifestyles drastically matter which is
actually true I mean I’m not one of
these people who believe you ought to go
around wearing a hair shirt and doing
penance for your sins this is a high
energy society it will remain when we
live or dies our energy society there’s
no other way you keep six and a half
billion people alive that’s industrial
agriculture it’s not as a farm
conservation and the short run helps
because it winds us a bit more time but
the ultimate goal is to replace your
fossil fuels with other means of
generating power at which point how much
power you use ceases to be an issue so
you want your lifestyle here it is you
can have it back it’s just been d
carbonized and if people understood that
that is the ultimate goal rather than we
all live miserably ever after I think
there might be a little bit less
reluctant
