he is known as the world’s fastest
cartoonist hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com
we headed to comic-con where we spoke
with Sergio Aragones about his time with
Mad Magazine what first drew you to Mad
Magazine
well I was a fan of mad when I was in
high school and never even dreaming that
I could ever work for Matt because he
was so great artists the writers I
didn’t understand so I didn’t understand
English but I will go after my
colleagues who translate for me I was
working for that magazine in Mexico and
there was no more to do so I emigrated
to the United States because that was
where the future was for me there were a
lot of magazines a lot of thing and
every place I went everybody says well
these cartoons are crazy you should go
to mad no they’re too good but I went on
yeah
luckily they liked what I did what do
you think has helped keep mad popular
with the public it’s there because a
single reason it’s good
it doesn’t pander or certain a selective
group many comic books have lost
readership because they try to grow up
with the readership abandoning the young
ones matt has always done humor for any
age done thing we change where the
clothing and settings and things but
that humor still is a basic good sense
of humor and that one has made it last
do you have a favorite piece of work
from your time there I have pieces that
I’m very proud of it
I did a map of the United States that
took me long long time to do and that
I’m very happy because you came out
terrific
I like the ones that I can talk about a
social problem or something that’s
happening and I always try to include
a comment satirized is something that is
happening now no matter what the subject
is
and those re-injury a lot i enjoyed that
last one I did about Lady Gaga because I
have to research her and I have to look
at all her videos and going to her life
and look at all and I realized this is a
very interesting woman is fascinating
how her life and all the things she’s
done you know she’s not a big book
this is amazing so the more you you get
into your articles the more you realize
how important people are or things are
happening so all of them bring a lot of
stuff there’s definitely a lot to
satirize for Lady Gaga for sure thank
you so much please welcome
