welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’re
speaking with the Goo Goo Dolls about
the band’s origins and songwriting
process how do your Buffalo origins
influence your sound you know they call
Buffalo the city with no illusions you
know so you know I mean I think there’s
always been sort of a raw emotional kind
of hard on your sleeve kind of vibe to
what I like to write I think our work
ethic kind of kind of shows in the music
that’s that’s just something I mean
Buffalo is a city of incredibly hard
workers
Wow your father son
can you tell me about writing songs with
the guitar is that sort of your starting
point or do you write the lyrics first I
think I think it yeah it always starts
with the guitar and kind of like a riff
or a chord you know and then and then it
goes into melody you know and then just
trying to scribble out ideas as quickly
as possible
sometimes it’s different sometimes I’ll
have like you know a little piece of
poetry or whatever and then I sort of
build something around that
do you prefer performing live or deeper
for recording the studio
it depends what I’m doing when I’m
performing live I want to be in the
studio and the opposite as well you know
when I’m in the studio I want to be out
playing live because they’re both they
both present their own challenges and
yeah I really and the other child the
chance is the other thing always seem
easier then then the ones you’re facing
you know when you’re touring it’s like
the challenge is just the traveling the
sleep you know all that the performances
are great you know that’s that’s fun but
in the studio there’s there’s like a
different kind of tension
