this family-owned company is one of the
leaders in single malt scotch hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’ll be
learning more about Glenfiddich
Glenfiddich was started off by William
Greg William Grant worked at a small
disarray in Dufton the same villages
Glenfiddich for 20 years now during that
time he clearly saw that this is
something that he could also do he had
this dream to build his own distillery
and produced the best ROM in the valley
after 20 years he had accrued sufficient
wealth and also sufficient knowledge to
do just that so in 1886 he started to
build his own distillery he completed it
on Christmas Day 1887 when the phosphate
it flows through the stills is still in
the same hands of the same family now
fifth generations so it’s a family-owned
company we’re very proud of it it has
expanded hugely over the years we all
learn Finnish bahraini but also grants
whiskey and what ingredients go into
producing this whiskey and also of the
process well whiskey’s a generic name
for many things blended malt whiskey
clean whiskey bourbon American rice
Japanese you name it but malt whiskey
made in Scotland is made from one
Empress a malted barley and singable
comes from one single distillery so
Glenfiddich is a single malt can only be
made at Glenfiddich in Scotland we use a
combination for European oak and
American author whiskies and generally
what we do at the end of the process is
we we weave at those two morts at the
end of the maturation phase to achieve a
nice balanced flavor most mature in oak
of one sort so it very much depends on
how long you leave it in the oak
obviously Bourbons are about two and a
half years blended whiskies here for
five years but you’ll get there the
singer moths generally start at 1012
years and and then of course other words
we have a malt whisky for instance 50
years old now I know there are a variety
of different vintages available what
more can you tell us about these so we
have a healthy stock of aged whiskies in
the warehouse so every year we’ll do two
whiskies vintages between 31 and 37
years old but we also have as part of
our standard range a 30 40 and 50
it’s kind of unique and obviously having
a healthy stock of these whiskies allows
us to do something like that how is it
best stored I mean which is known for
storing it for drinking clearly but if
if it’s an investment just make sure
you’ve got a very good seal on the top
if you’re storing a very old bottle for
a long time
ice versus water we want my whiskeys up
because if you want that whiskey up
there in terms you get much more flavor
and much more rolling clear if you wide
ice you get the reverse it seems to
contract two flavors but a lot of people
will find whiskey quite a tough flavor
so they’ve put ice into it comes up the
hill it makes it palatable for them so
there’s no right or wrong way it’s down
to the individual to determine what’s
good for them what about food pairings
we find that that dried or smoked meats
go well with our 12 now 18 desires are
fantastic with the 21 chocolate goes
great with what the 15 and under 30 so
we know what works but we can’t be too
specific and we’re serving it how is it
best served the best ways with friends
if your friends are buying the whiskey
that’s even better
