FounderFuel Pt. 1: Meet the Entrepreneurs

a lot of things have been happening in
Montreal in the last couple of years
that are really big for for the tech
tech world that’s here and being
involved from the beginning is really
cool
this experience has already been a
success for us and I think the network
of the last cohort and the mentors that
are around founder fuel being able to
reach out and talk to those people is
crazy value we pulled in a lot of
different directions and we can keep our
sanity
we’ll be very happy so at the end of the
program I’m really looking to take the
business that I’ve started that’s
generating revenue right now and it’s
paying my salary of my partner’s salary
and I want to look in the bigger picture
I want to find that vision that big goal
that I know is there but that I can
articulate yet the biggest thing that
I’m sacrificing to be here is social
life being with friends and family and
probably the second biggest thing is the
security of having a job and all that
comes with a very high paying job no no
not that much I’m kind of young I’m sure
my wife isn’t happy that I’m gonna be
holed up in the not Minh house for three
months I guess we’re sacrificing I love
the office space in Toronto I’m also an
athlete and it used to Train like six
seven times a week now I have no time at
all it was really tough to to leave my
girlfriend and my dog behind and and
come out here but uh you know what
it’s worth it
my definition of entrepreneurship is
someone who sees a gap that’s not
currently being addressed right now so
they see the market state as it is and
find a room to innovate the math and
carve out a position to generate profits
really someone that is very passionate
about what they do they almost feel that
they are the business is someone who’s
always creating it doesn’t matter what
it is entrepreneurship is a roller
coaster building expanding that network
and everything hitting those milestones
now you said I think the definition of
entrepreneurship is taking big risks but
it’s also being able to lead a team
being successful is mainly about having
fun paths and your passion creativity
you gotta love what you do it’s got to
be the personality and the person you
are because if you’re around people all
day and you need people to be successful
you can’t do it alone
you’ve got to be nice to them and they
gotta love you and they’re gonna do what
you want them to do at the end of the
day I think a lot of it comes down to
how well you’re able to take feedback
and criticism it really takes a right
kind of person to listen to somebody and
when they tell you you’re dead wrong
maybe you’ll dismiss them but you need
to actively listen to them and make sure
that you’re not lying to yourself you
got to have teeth you got a want success
enough that you’re going to sacrifice to
be successful
what’s more important the idea or the
execution I think the execution is much
more important because everybody got
ideas there are other people who have
danced around the idea that we’ve had
but the reason that we’ve been
successful to this point and attractive
to the market to this point is because
we’ve executed in a different way than
everyone else I know that my idea at the
beginning is just an idea it’s nothing
unless you execute the execution is
obviously very very important but it’s
all about the idea for me if you don’t
have an idea you can get behind the
execution doesn’t matter how will you do
it
I don’t think investors are as worried
about the idea as an execution so when
they look at a CEO or a team they want
to see but this is the team that can do
it it’s just like a band you know two
people can write the same idea for a
song about a love on a girl the only
ones in a rock
