welcome to watchmojo.com i’m your host
layla and i have the pleasure of talking
to the man behind flash first of all
tell us a little bit about the role you
undertook in this project that was
composing music for a dance company in
Taipei I am kind of the focus point for
getting a lot of people together in the
bridge between Asia and Canada you want
to tell us a little bit about your
inspiration from The Art of War knew I
wanted to make some kind of creation
that would be a mix of Asian inspiration
that would work in a western public and
I started thinking about art of war it
showed us that we should go for more
street arts more street dance more
competitive martial arts you tell us a
little bit about the talent that you
recruited because it’s a combination of
different cultures in North America you
don’t necessarily need circus artists
who we mix things it’s just a fusion of
arts it’s a fusion of dance video of
music so I said I’ll take the real
circus artists that are doing aerial
things from North America and the other
ones will find from what you have is
talent you have an extensive career in
performance arts and writings what is
the impact of technology and multimedia
the main point there of technology is
not necessarily what you put on stage
but your means of communication we try
to reduce it down so that the body still
stays powerful and that the strength of
the communication is still physical
you’re exposing a lot of Oriental values
and traditions what’s the universal
value basically I think that’s a lot of
the work we’re doing in circuses hbu are
helping other people look good or help
them arrive at what they’re doing that’s
a general philosophy that motivates the
show the other one is what people get
out of just seeing the different
cultures that are there and how they are
stimulated by what they’re doing how
they incorporate their culture in their
bodies there’s also a little bit of a
political cause behind as to what makes
entertainment a good platform to
communicate some kind of traditional
depth yeah the world entertainment is a
way that you can get a mass public to
see something some people say circus is
for kids it’s going to be for the family
you can’t use rock and no you can and
that was one of the points that I’ve
doing this and that’s our way of
changing it is by bringing the Asian
values and by bringing the edge
why is the live musical must live music
is part of the energy and I think circus
is something that is alive know people
are risking their lives to do things so
that’s a danger and the thing about live
music is it it’s alive and it pushes in
it can also excite people as much as the
acrobats
