Erick Schonfeld on the Last.FM Controversy

why does last.fm think that TechCrunch
is we ran a story about about
last.fm that was a rumor at the time and
it was cast as a rumor listening data
being passed along to the RIAA when we
got that information I tried to verify
it with plasti FM with CBS and you know
the day that that we did that post i
reach out them in the morning and was
assured that that we definitely going to
get a full response on this and it’s
very important I didn’t hear from them
you know all day all day and finally I
was just being stalled and became clear
to me that they weren’t going to respond
you know they responded with a
one-sentence statement and so then okay
so that I got that response and then I
ran the story and it was on a Friday and
they were in London right and then they
claimed that way they claimed that it
wasn’t true but then later turned out
that it was true but it was the CBS
people who were doing in at the last FM
people so you know the last.fm people
somehow didn’t realize that they were
owned by CBS I guess I don’t know and
that the actions of CBS corporation with
their data you know is that they can’t
distance themselves too much from that
but you know we did a follow-on story we
got some more information about it it’s
still you know I think that that that
there’s still some loose ends out there
that could be cleared up but we stand by
the story and you know time ago
