why lips pale face breathing in
snowflakes hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’re
speaking with Ed Sheeran about + light’s
gone day’s end struggling to pay rent
long nights strange men let’s talk about
+ what were you going for what would you
say is the overall sound the overall
sound for + was uh quite similar I’d
done around 7 7 PS 11 releases in in
total bit before hand and throughout
those 11 releases I kind of worked out
my kind of sound and for the album it
was just very simple I just did what I’d
done on the last few keys for that and
it was just the kind of collage of
thoughts and memories / songs – to make
the album and just a collection of the
best the best work that I’d done up
until that time whose inner pipe she’ll
fly to the motherland and sell love to
another man
outside let’s talk about the song the
a-team tell us a bit about the
inspiration behind that song and the
video well the inspiration behind the
a-team came from I did a gig in a
homeless shelter around two years ago
and you know I was I was quite young and
naive and hadn’t really witnessed that
area or life before so it was kind of a
big eye-opener for me and the song was
just based around one of the women that
I met there and that whole experience in
the video depicts the story that I was
trying to tell but not every TV channel
plays a video really yeah it’s not that
easy it’s not that racy no but I don’t
know like I was I was watching the
charts one day in in England and I was
currently sitting at number three with
the a-team and when it got to number
three on the TV channels they didn’t
play the video but then number two was
like the video with Rihanna for SNM
where she deep throats have been on it
and then yeah I guess I guess just some
things are more accepted in popular
culture than other things and you’d
rather you’d rather see someone sucking
off a banana than someone with a pipe in
a map I guess the worst things in life
come free to us cause we’re just
the upper hand
for a couple grams she don’t want
sigh were you expecting it to explode
the way it did I didn’t necessarily
expect the a-team to explode the way it
did I mean I’d written songs for that
there’s a song I did for the album
called Lego house that when I wrote it I
was like right this will be this will be
my my hit but I kind of kept it back and
wanted to release a team first to kind
of show you what I was really about
radio wouldn’t really touch it to begin
with and and TV was the same and then
radio one in England took a massive
gamble through through the likes of
people like Zane Lowe they just started
playing it and it just caught on and and
worked and then you know I was I was
free to release another single called
uni being I don’t need you which is a
bit more left to Center and then I could
come with like a house and really kind
of sweep up I’m gonna pick up the pieces
and build a Lego house things go wrong
and look at them it was an interesting
way how it broke I’m very happy I did it
that way and I’m trying to create the
same success in North America now it’s
so cool
[Music]
and I call December but I got to the
gaming ball
speaking of Lego house tell us a bit
about how that video came about the Lego
house video came about just from like
I’m not scared to kind of show some
humor I know that I have bright red hair
and I know that I might look like Ron
Weasley from Harry Potter so my thing
with it like I didn’t appear in my first
three music videos so no one really knew
what I look like
unless they went on YouTube I kind of
wanted to confuse people and make them
think that Ron Weasley from Harry Potter
it’s left and changed his name to my
name and started up a music career so I
got in touch with tom Felton the plays
Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter and asked
him if he could ask Rupert to do it and
Rupert said yes it caused the desired
effects I mean there are a lot of not so
much the kids that kids knew what I look
like but still guide to it I got a tweet
this morning from from someone just
saying that that moment said that Rupert
Grint had changed his name and started
off a music career and stuff and yeah
it’s good to challenge people and none
of all these things I’ve done I love you
better now
