although the sport itself corrupts me I
don’t think I would have been as grips
and taken with it if it wasn’t for like
the amazing team spirit that actually
comes along with the game and no matter
what team or what leave you go and visit
or skate with that team spirit is just
completely evident it’s fantastic
we’re part of a sisterhood and it’s not
only just within the league but it’s all
the Derby girls around the world
anywhere you go you have a new friend
the community that develops is also
really peculiar I’ve never encountered
it with other sports and that is really
obvious to us but it might not be
obvious to outsiders that there’s this
real strong bond that develops between
all the women which is amazing it’s
about athleticism it’s about
sportsmanship it’s about friendship it’s
about fairness it’s about having a tribe
really like and a group behind you and
you go out together and it seems
sometimes I mean it’s such a physical
sport that it feels sometimes when we
get out of a really big game that we’ve
sort of gone to war together you know
and the next day we’re all calling each
other and are you okay and I miss you
and let’s go for a drink
you know girls can throw each other and
you throw throw themselves and throw
themselves at each other and still
really love each other and get along and
respect each other it’s pretty amazing
tell me she cried we have our own little
community that we welcome other people
to participate in every once in a while
like through boats or through events I
was a fan before because I can’t skate I
couldn’t breath and because I’m a guy I
couldn’t play and as soon as I had an
opening for announcers I was like I want
in
everyone in this league is automatically
inclusive they were like you like roller
derby we can be friends it’s not just
one or two people that are cool it’s the
whole league it’s the whole environment
and every city I’ve been to to watch the
word for literally it’s always the same
so when you find something like that
you’ve got to grab onto it you got to
become part of it if you’re a derby girl
you tend to be supported by other derby
girls and you know if we’re nice to
everybody else to sort of but no I mean
there’s just an intrinsic notion that
which is a

had to find something to do to be part
of it
