to prepare for stand-up versus preparing
for TV the camera is the audience there
are more people behind that little box
at home than there are in the studio so
I would almost I would almost apologize
to the studio audience because I’d come
out before the show and have a bit of a
chat and then I’d say I’m really sorry
when the show starts I’m gonna have to
look at that thing I felt really
self-conscious kind of going from hey

crossover the white talk shows have have
developed you start with a monologue
which is what all stand-ups do so those

this week so we’ve asked our audience to
tell us their most embarrassing social
moments we also asked people online and
some of their answers included Chantelle
who said quote back in the day when it
was legal to smoke in pubs I was
searching around my handbag trying to
find a smoke I was about to light it up
only to realize i was in fact lighting a
tampon so basically is a stand-up what
you do is you do a monologue and then
you talk to people in the crowd
Gilbert’s mum answered the question tell
us something no one knows about you with
the answer my ideal threesome would be
Tim Minchin and Andrew Denton the worst
thing is you knew you were bringing your
son to the show now he’s got the image
in his head of his mum having a
threesome with Tim mentioned and Andrew
down to now and that’s pretty much what
a talk show is except that instead of
people in the crowd you talk to someone
famous that you’ve researched your fans
and audiences around the world how is it
playing to different audiences in north
america so canada as well as the states
they want to see you perform it’s like
we’ve paid to see a performance and I
find if I walk out here like I do in
Australia a bit g’day hey going the
audience is kind of like going well it’s
this guy even trying because that we
think in Australia the audience look at
you like you’re trying too hard and here
they look at you like you’re not trying
enough how do you like to describe your
comedy I’d like to destroy my comedy as
conversational but there was there was a
whole lot of observational stand up
there for a while and I like to think
that mines a bit more conversational it
really is just a guy havin a bit of a
chat oh wow do they actually work they
worked marvelously beautiful just it can
do it you can’t get some else do it for
you or yourself
because they call this like the
