the only way to describe it is Vava
Vavoom hi I’m Maya Fuhrer and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re talking to
dancers from around the world to learn
about burlesque dancing so what exactly
is burlesque dancing burlesque is a
style of striptease period it’s um it’s
a silo striptease that we perform it’s
an homage to the performers of the 40s
and 50s it’s its striptease light but
back in the day it was the real deal
burlesque is the art of the teeth we
celebrate women’s body in all its shape
and colors and so it’s very important to
bring back the sophistication and the
teas and how long have you been dancing
for and how did you get started I’ve
been dancing for a long time some
teenager I always danced but in
burlesque it’s been 2 years and a half
full time though I fell in love right
away and made it my job that’s what I
wanted to do to me producing dancing
acting offering a shows so how long have
you been burlesque dancing for 17 years
and do you know the difference between
NiO burlesque and modern-day burlesque
the big heyday of burlesque was in the
30s and 40s and 50s in America and the
second wave has given birth to a bunch
of different sorts of performers who put
their own spin on on the original
classic my style is class and glamour
like American Smooth burlesque but I
love new performers who make it more
more relevant more modern more more
contemporary a lot of people confuse
burlesque dancing with stripping so
could you tell us what the differences
are first thing that comes to mind would
be costuming we always keep our pasties
on pasties are little pieces that
covered the nipples so that’s never
revealed and then something on the
bottom like a g-string it’s pretty much
the minimal thing that we’re gonna wear
that never comes off it’s a very
different approach we appeal a lot to
ladies
looks like burlesque really embodies the
female form so can women fruit of all
shapes and sizes perform burlesque yes
absolutely
small tall skinny
generous boobalicious everybody’s
welcome to do burlesque because we
celebrate the difference and that we’re
not perfect and in being not perfect
that’s what’s perfect about us it’s
glamour come to life it’s pinup girls
come to life and dancing in front of you
and wearing these these costumes and
clothes that you see in like drawings so
we’re always in corsets and garters and
things like that and the dancers back
then we’re not stick-thin they weren’t
supermodels so no it really is taking
the best of what you have and make it
work and making it entertaining on stage
do you have any advice for newcomers in
burlesque it’s expensive then save your
money buy lots of crystals and make your
costumes bling and work hard to be nice
to everybody because that’s the way to
get to the top
you
