Month this celebration began as negro
history week in 1926 and the intent was
to preserve the history of black people
and to educate all people about the
contributions made by blacks throughout
history an interesting fact is that
Woodson was born to a slave on December
nineteenth 1875 started his high school
education at the age of 20 he went on to
study at Berea College University of
Chicago the Sun bun and harvard
university where he earned his PhD in
1912 Woodson overcame a difficult
background to show the world that you
can achieve anything at any age remember
