Biffy Clyro Talks Songwriting, New Album

these Scottish dudes rock out and arenas
and at festivals and can even bring it
down for more intimate venues hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with Biffy Clyro about their songwriting
process
Oh
tell us a bit more about the band’s
writing process I mean is it
collaborative or more individual it’s
done by songwriters we rate checks to
simonryser song sends the guitarist in
the signal naturally you rate the songs
and you know when an acoustic guitar
when he’s wife’s asleep late at night
when you’re your plane is gonna come
crazy and you’ll bring out your identity
into the practice room and sometimes our
fully fledged IV or sometimes they’re
just small ideas you know sometimes he
knows exactly wants the drums and all
the vocals to do and something from up
so much so you know it’s kind of can I
like that and then we just make them
load in the practice room and see what
song is should reload wish from
shouldn’t and just keep mess and let
them until we all just say that the end
the best form they can be and they only
the end of the possibly make the cup of
being on an album
now I know you said Simon does the
lyrics but I mean what lyrical themes
tend to resonate most with you think of
the things that will mean more to me and
lyrics you know speaking from a personal
point of view is important I think
people trying to comment and think if
they don’t know about it’s about celli
so you know Simon always rates honestly
and very personal experience and
emotions he’s feeling and stuff and that
that’s Alex I like the most and I thank
God and Satan this song from one of the
revolutions is I think is Simon’s gonna
let it go Pete today I think that’s an
absolute builder and I still setting
good for those likes my head and think
about them allowing a fantastic
what can you tell us about what you’re
working on now or it can you tell us
anything about what you’re working on
him again there’s no rules you know
working on our second album at the
moment we’re just throwing stuff at the
wall we’ve seen them as decks and
anything to be like oh you know be put
forward for the album and stuff with
stuff we don’t want and it’s really as
simple as that we’re not thinking about
the success of the last album or what
the fans want I think if you do that as
the kiss of death because you have
trying to second-guess your fans
necessary thing to do so yeah but you
know we’ve got a handful of songs we’re
having to burn off they will be Tigger a
month at home in January there but
that’s the first time or four five or
four years so it’s kind of tough to find
time to get stuff together but hopefully
by the end of this year we’ll have the
album ready
what keeps you guys motivated well I
mean it’s the best job in the world for
a start you know getting put in Montreal
Canada it’s amazing at lovely place you
get to travel the world being on stage
playing shows it’s just the best feeling
in the world whatever making albums is
also a great fun it’s not hard to find
motivation to do this two of them it’s
good to know I’m always sick of bands
they’re like oh I don’t want to go up
into the you know recordings to Japan
the ass touring such panic so there’s
the two best things about being the van
the worst things interviews
