many women are spending their time in
vain on the cardio machine when they
could be burning more calories lifting
weights hi I’m Veronica with
watchmojo.com and today we’re learning
how resistance training can help you
shed the pounds and help your overall
health so why should women lift weights
women need to lift weights because they
need to increase their strength and
endurance they need to burn body fat
they need to increase their bone density
and it’ll really help with balance as
well so the lifting weights help you get
lean yes lifting weights will help you
lose weight for mainly the reason that
it will increase your fat free mass
it’ll make your muscles denser tighter
and stronger more endurance and through
that the body has to work harder to
maintain that muscle so it will burn
away the fat and there are two different
birds there’s muscle there’s fat they’re
like this there are two layers the fat
is always gonna be on top and the
muscles underneath muscle does not turn
to fat what happens is a muscle if
you’re working it gets much much
stronger and better and then because of
the high amount of maintenance it takes
to the body it burns off that fat so the
layer of fat gets smaller and smaller so
you see more of the muscle and less of
the fat how will it affect your overall
health well the less body fat you have
on you then the healthier you’ll be plus
with strength training and there’s a lot
of things in that postural control and
being able to hold your posture well to
eliminate neck and back pain being able
to take care of your kids properly live
things your kid in general or groceries
or things around the house being able to
have the strength to do housework and
and daily activities basically well what
about women who are scared of bulking up
that’s a big concern with most women
with weights because what they see is
the bodybuilder woman or they say the
bodybuilder man
is big bulky but actually the hormones
women don’t have enough testosterone to
build really big there’s certain rules
to it though you have to use no momentum
full range of motion and work within
your limitations but bulking up it’s
it’s the wrong idea about weight
training completely now women who aren’t
scared of bulking up are often
intimidated by the men in the weight
room do you have any advice yeah that’s
a fair assumption that even myself for
years I I didn’t want to go into the gym
you go in and people all look like they
know what they’re doing and those big
guys around and so there’s a couple of
different solutions to that there are
some gyms that actually have women only
places inside the gym even though it’s a
co-ed gym you actually have a place for
women to do their exercises on their own
there’s also use a trainer go in with
somebody who knows something in fact if
you’re just starting out and you know
nothing even if it’s not a trainer it
could be a friend or something like that
a power yoga class a Pilates class or
just general exercises done without
weight or resistance training if you’re
reaching what’s called overload that is
you’re making the muscle work harder now
is it still important to incorporate
cardio into your workout
everybody needs cardio the number one
killer in North America is heart disease
so what’s recommended is about three
days a week in about thirty minutes of
low to moderate even high-intensity
aerobics or cardio what’s great about
weight training what people don’t
realize is that you can actually get
cardio through weight training depending
on the exercises you’re doing and how
you’re doing them if you incorporate a
lot of legs mixed with upper body or
mixed with your core you’ll see that
your heart rate will come up and if you
don’t take huge breaks in between each
exercise it will maintain that cardio
level now is it better to do your weight
program first or your cardio program
either one I mean it’s it’s
your preference but what they do say is
if you do your weight training first and
it depends on how you do your weight
training you hat it has to be very
effective to burn off the sugars so that
when you get to your cardio you’re ready
to burn fat however sometimes if you’re
too fatigued after your weight training
your cardio might suffer and vice-versa
so you have to play with a little bit
you may have to separate the two or just
make sure to pay attention to when
you’re doing either if you’re getting
sloppy or your technique is failing and
you have to keep your technique perfect
no matter what you’re doing just pay
attention to that mostly is there
anything else that we should know about
weightlifting when it comes to women
that it really is important for all
women at all levels bone density is a
big factor to prevent osteoporosis so
they have to do weight-bearing exercises
that it will help with their posture it
will help with their self-esteem and
their confidence it will make them
stronger generally well thank you very
much you’re welcome
