a spoiler alert is in order
[Music]
number ten leon versus the NYPD leon the
professional despite being surrounded by
fully trained police it’s amazing how
many leon manages to kill but you know
he is a professional thinking they have
the edge four officers go into the room
he’s in but a few gunshots later the
door opens and four dead officers lay on
the floor no surprise there but the
surprise does come when leon hanging
upside down from the ceiling continues
to fire at the officers in the hall with
two handguns before leaning back up you
know just casually
number nine caught in the middle two
guns
absolute mayhem is probably the best way
to describe this shootout that happens
near the end of the film stars Denzel
Washington and Mark Wahlberg are
perfectly matched as the protagonist and
the film is bolstered by their often
humorous interactions go ahead Mike
don’t be I never been
however they truly shine together when
they’re armed with guns violent and
stylish the final shootout has three
different parties involved with Denzel
and Mark right in the middle of it
livestock gets in the way choppers
crashed to the ground and vehicles
filled with money are blown up all in a
day’s work thank you Ray
number eight the final firefight true
romance one two three question
Tarantino’s wild plots often culminate
in epic shoot ups and true romance is no
exception
what starts as an intense standoff
between cops and a film producers
bodyguards during a drug deal gets
kicked up a notch when mobsters arrive
at the scene looking for the stolen
drugs and it all goes pear-shaped when a
pot of coffee is thrown in someone’s
face
the room is torn to pieces as bullets
fly in all directions everyone is killed
and when you think about it this is all
because an apparition of Elvis came to
the main character convincing him to
kill his girlfriend’s pimp wild Platz
remember Black Keys cleaners I am always
wheel number seven the pub shootout
inglorious bastards
[Music]
the setup to this brief shootout is what
makes it so masterful it’s a tavern full
of patron and only to survive initially
and to think it all could have been
avoided if hick Hawkes had held his
thumb out instead of his ring finger
when ordering three drinks this gift has
not be charade away and after a lot of
growing shooting everyone in the bar
opens fire sheriff it is until you not
see box it’s just noise and blood from
here on out while people are shot in the
back and the head with shotguns handguns
and submachine guns number six do no
harm
Terminator 2 Judgment Day you guys
company this scene is so satisfying to
watch and no one even dies in it it’s an
amazing sequence thanks to the context
set up beforehand with tons of cops
outside
the t800 has to take care of them
although he’s promised not to take
innocent lives not a terminator anymore
alright got that you just can’t go
around killing people
minigun in hand he takes out multiple
vehicles while cops dive out of the way
he never lets go of the trigger this is
an astonishing feat as not a single
officer gets caught in the crossfire
which is a sharp contrast to what
happens in the first film when the
Terminator pretty much kills every cop
number five the nightclub shootout
collateral Tom Cruise usually doesn’t
play the villain but he just does it so
well in this movie his performance is
chilling as the calculating and ruthless
hitman Vincent with intent on
neutralizing five targets in one night
one of the marks is at a nightclub and
at this stage the cops are onto what’s
happening
caught between the police and the
targets bodyguards as well as other
hitmen Vincent begins to open fire he
expertly execute anyone in his path
while navigating through panicked Club
goers
number four the hallway shootout kick
ass
there’s just something so entertaining
about seeing a small child expertly and
brutally kill about a dozen men the
Holloway makes for an interesting
setting if hit girl needs to get to the
other side while also getting through a
bunch of goons guns butterfly knives and
even the bookshelves on either side of
her are used to her advantage she may be
a little kid but she’s also a superhero
one we would not want to get on the
wrong side of Matthew Vaughn the
director has a knack for creating
stylized and hyper violent sequences as
seen in another of his films Kingsman
the Secret Service which features a
shootout set in a church
number three Fenway Park robbery the
town
the biggest heist yet has the biggest
setup and the greatest payoff regarding
male entertainment for the viewers a
serious police assault on the crew
occurs after the robbery getaway goes
south the firefight begins in a garage
where a dozen SWAT members opened fire
on the four-man crew whoa the way the
camera shakes and the uncompressed
sounds of the firearms to make it one
hell of an immersive sequence it ends on
the street when Jem one of the robbers
runs out of ammo and is surrounded by
police not wanting to go to prison he
lets them kill him Honda number two the
ending shootout taxi driver how much
there anything watching Travis bickel’s
mind unravel is engrossing to watch and
everything that happens in the movie
leads to a final assault on a brothel to
save iris fuck on this no exaggerated
style is needed here just realism and
violence as Travis guns down a pimp and
two others in the process he has shot
multiple times at close range but still
manages to finish what he started in the
end he’s revered as a hero for saving
iris when only moments earlier he’d
attempted to and failed in assassinating
a senator which would have tarnished his
name forever
before we unveil our number one pick
here are some honorable mentions
[Applause]
[Music]
number one the red circle gunfight John
wick combining precision and style with
one hell of a body count secures this
scene in a nightclub as one of the best
shootouts ever made it’s incredibly
graphic while also portraying a sort of
elegance in the way wick moves and takes
out his enemies with a great club track
in the background and the choreography
of a martial arts film only you know
with guns viewers are left with their
mouths a gate as body after body hits
the ground mere seconds apart meanwhile
wick makes efficient use of the double
tap making sure his opponents do not
have a chance to get back up
[Music]
