A Rocket to the Moon: Second Album Details

this rock band aims to paint timeless
stories with their music hi I’m Rebecca
Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com and
today we are speaking with a rocket to
the moon about their second album and
how their music is inspired by country
let’s talk about the album what were you
guys going for on this one kind of just
ourselves but just a little bit more
grown up from the last month you know we
did the last 13 years ago and we’ve
definitely grown up and it’s only been
three years but we’ve grown up with what
we listened to you know our musical
tastes have kind of grown and our
personalities have definitely grown and
I think we kind of just found the sound
that we were looking for I think for the
last couple years oh I
I think it’s way more diverse than on
your side as well speaking of someone
who wasn’t a part of the first record of
time I just think that you know we
expanded on the things that we thought
made the band special we had more time
to write yeah we had a lot more time to
write the first time we wrote it and
recorded it in my two months or
something so we got to take our time
with it which we really liked and our
label trusted us to do one of them which
is really cool
I got how influential is country music
to you guys us three mainly like it
listen to country music have elected to
but I mean we all listen to it that’s
kind of my style of playing guitar more
I don’t listen to as much like
contemporary country is these to do I’m
more of a fan of like ease 90s country
like George Strait Alabama on Jackson
which they all love as well but those
songs me have this incredible timeless
quality to them and there’s such great
stories going back and revisiting songs
that I used to love as a kid sometimes I
forget certain songs even exist and
it’ll come up I’ll hear it and then I’ll
know every word to it’s still and I
don’t like kind of take me back and to
me that’s one of my favorite things
about music and that’s I think kind of a
goal that tried to achieve with this
record is creating these narratives that
people can really relate to
yeah I’ve always every time I’ve written
a song I’ve always been really visual
and I don’t even mean to half the time
you know and it just kind of comes out
and that’s one thing that I really like
about country is you can listen to the
song and it’s almost like you’re
watching a movie without a picture and
funny you know you can just paint the
picture for you in your head and I think
that’s what we kind of did on this we
did a little bit on the last record but
this record I think has a lot of that
you know where it’s like not just saying
you know the big boy pulling up to the
house picking up the girl and going out
like we explained like you know kind of
all the little details in the song and
it’s it’s really cool that’s what I’ve
always liked admired about country you
know
I
we’ll finish off by asking your favorite
experience so far in your career I think
we’d probably all say the the trip we
did a month ago we in lat last year but
probably the one a month ago we kind of
like a mini world tour thing it started
in the Philippines we were there for
four days and then we went to Australia
for like a week and a half and then to
South America our band flying across the
world and playing to kids like that and
then going on stage and seeing if
there’s like 4,000 people sitting
everywhere to your songs it’s like some
of that you probably would never have
ever thought would be you know a
possibility for you and it’s really cool
we can just go you know to a Kamal here
and walk around and be completely cool
with it but like over there if we were
like step outside of our hotel we’d be
like mom we’d had security around us and
it was like something like you know
doesn’t I never thought it would be like
me doing that or like you know all of us
doing that I was like what are these
people see and that’s nice thing for
somebody else so it was crazy thanks
very much guys
