Women, work and their future! | Nabomita Mazumdar | TEDxSIESCOMS

get off noon Thank You TEDx says calm
for inviting me to address the future of
work woman and explain it in terms of
butterfly effect before we discuss
anything but let’s start with the news
that was there in the that then we made
a headline why because suddenly two BOTS
decided to invent their own language and
have a discussion of their own which no
human beings who were designing them
could understand it was a headline
something happening around the world
something that we are creating something
uh that is called a future something
that y’all will create pretty soon first
picture that you see that’s in India
we’re in four out of four out of four
were factory workers in money sir one is
a robo so there’s a robo making a car
and the second picture is from Silicon
Valley the chamber which is where their
cars are driven by Robo so robos making
the car driven by Robo
I hope they buy it for us so that we
don’t need to pay our taxes and the
prices for the car too this is a report
essentially by PwC when they are
segmenting the entire industry why is
this important because most of us are
preparing for these industries right
let’s start with the blue one the blue
industry has been structured stable
stood the test of time companies such as
IBM they have always been there the
green companies that Elon Musk is
building for the environment for next
generation for or responsible but
thought companies wherein they are
creating the next generation product in
such a hard-hitting manner that they are
cannibalizing where they dare go to
and lays on each other right then we
will the Flipkart and we build policies
were in D we don’t want Amazon to enter
India sorry the third final one is the
yellow sector which is very intelligent
which is building smart products which
is building the future and creating
options for you wherein you have a smart
fridge which knows when you open the
door what are you going to look for
because the data is already been stored
or you have an OLAP which allows you to
choose between an auto driven car he
driven car or a she driven car or a
transgender driven car that’s the kind
of product which is going to be created
by the this yellow sector however this
entire industry is changing because of
the technology that is taking a huge
wave right and this report called this
report by PwC which which calls which
they have named as three waves right
wherein they have identified three waves
of AI wherein they have identified first
one the corner one that is the
algorithmic one the second one is the
Augmented one and the third is the
autonomous one what does algorithm
algorithm is just a collection of
numbers engineers over here would
understand it better it is just a
reading of what is going on what is
argumentation the man-machine you have a
GPS yet you know which road not to take
because of traffic or the sudden digging
which has happened and the final is the
auto normal enormous Varon it is not a
semi controlled environment anymore the
machines are good enough to run their
own world so we have Auto driven cars
and probably BOTS with whom we first saw
decide to use their own language and
talk to each other how does this impact
industry how does it impact the jobs how
does it impact you who is creating the
industry over here you have you you can
see different industries mentioned and
there are different colors the orange
one is for the algorithm right the jobs
in algorithmic world are the ones who
are just taking taking the cues of what
have what have been repeatedly the
cookie cutter jobs the argumented one is
unstructured data which has been taken
in a semi control environment and that
had been created and the jobs had been
transitioning and the final is the
autonomous which a position where the
jobs are run done run by entirely robots
very little human interaction how does
this app impact which industry this
report by PwC says the highest level of
impact cannot be seen before 2023
because the entire algorithmic functions
which are transitioning from man manda I
mean human double delivered work to
machine delivered work is going to be
marginal the maximum impact will see
once the argumented jobs argumented
technology starts taking over which is
2023 onwards probably 2030 and then the
impact that awaits us is the autonomous
area where which is beyond 2030 up to 20
2035 however this is a very optimistic
view we do not know it can take even
longer but then if we are supposed to
believe this report the first segment
that will be affected would be the the I
mean the by the Augmented technology
would be the intelligence sector the IT
right the human resource
however labor intensive sectors such as
construction manufacturing they will be
impacted in the third wave which is the
autonomous hawai does this matter to you
because this actually gives you a time
frame of how your jobs are going to
evolve and how your skills have to be
developed so when you are building a
company this is how you have to train
your people and train your business and
this again gives a view to the
transition of jobs for demography they
say that men would be more affected than
women however women participation and
jobs are low so keeping that in view we
will not lose jobs in the third wave
because we do not really do manual labor
intensive jobs but then it would be men
who are going to be affected if we look
at the age group obviously there a
people in the talent who are in that
less
25 right now they may not see a huge
impact in the kind of jobs that they are
they are designing for themselves but
how in future with an argumentation and
the autonomous sex segment this is where
they will have to prepare whether they
they don’t they no longer go to office
to work for somebody but create jobs for
their own most of these tasks would go
to robos and finally it’s the education
the lowest skilled segment the lower
skill talent lowest educational educated
segment would be hardly hard headed by
this entire wave not the high high
skilled ones one amongst you all were
even going to prepare be on with this
they say this is a report by indeed they
say women will have more jobs from than
men in future why because it’s the
healthcare and the intellectual segments
which will create more women friendly
jobs than men sorry men in the room I
know you all will create the jobs for us
thank you so these are new collar jobs
or the new collar jobs this year during
the WEF opening keynote Ginni Rometty
CEO a IBM announced something called new
collar jobs which is very apparent and
we’re very used in the IBM language
these are the jobs which were not there
essentially these are the jobs for which
no education prepares you there’s no
training for you and you will have to
learn as you are hired and you’re
delivering on this role and finally
economic this is 28 trillion is the GDP
growth that we can create which is a
combination of US and China if there is
an equal participation of women
entrepreneurship one monitor says this
is the kind of impact that we have in
government and more policymaking we have
the highest number of women
participation not as much as in
technology not as much as in health care
as increasing education is dead but rest
of the segments are still lagging behind
this report says there’s a highest
participation of women in the rural
sector now why does it still do not add
on to the GDP because in rural sector
the woman the the earning of the woman
dude is
very low because the per capita income
of that area is extremely low so the
services may see a price services do
have a lot of women participation the
rural sector whatever amount of
participation that we have in rural
sector I just want you to remember this
because pretty soon we are going to talk
about para then probably y’all will
bring in the change that we need to see
just as we know that the jobs are
changing just as we know you have
already seen the markets are evolving
what are the kind of organizations that
you actually require do you still
require nine-to-five jobs do you still
require your employer to tell you what
you what needs to be done once your your
induction and orientation is over the
first picture over there the lady with
her mother she has taken this picture
she’s an Air India pilot and her mother
is a crew member so on the on the way to
work this picture has been taken this
this is one symbol a symbol of an
organization that you need to create
wherein you don’t hire employees you
create legacies you your employees
create employ create employment create a
career for their kids
and people who is going to take a take
the legacies ahead of them this is just
one organization however there aren’t
many women around us who are creating a
better living world a better responsible
India one of them whom I would want to
mention is Miss Revathy Roy in this
picture at the age of 40 in her late 40s
she suddenly lost her job it lost her
husband and she was she was in a very
low economic State so she had to work
she had to earn and she all she could do
was to buzz to drive so she started
drive and she got few more woman to
drive cars with us and it became a
company which was taken over called Vida
cab the but she did not stop there after
creating enough capital she created
another company for which Buber india
reached out to her for 10,000 women
driver through her effort she is not
just creating a start-up she is not just
building technology she’s not just
creating woman driver she is creating
sustainability in a gender that does not
have any financial freedom essentially
employees from her company get a loan
for a vehicle that did drive for no
collateral and of course the lady over
here in this picture she is rocky
Chabria she is building a community for
teachers wherein they are disrupting
education because what they see is
education has evolved in certain areas
and it is not coming up to the speed for
everyone so they using community they’re
using technology they are using people
and they are creating a knowledge base
where in every disruption health it can
be reached at it will remove this part
of India and we have better education at
lower cost so this is an example of
women creating a better society a better
future minded none of them are IIT ins
none of them are from a venture
capitalist background yet they have an
idea and they are going on to build a
better world
all this while we heard examples of a
woman in urban cell India growing the
woman in India growing
however this there are women in Parratt
as well and this is a one effort by our
government wherein they are trying to
bring bring women in India and pirate
clothes closure by creating this kind of
a platform this is a woman of India
organic first vegetable wherein
entrepreneurs from 26 states are meeting
an eye on a platform selling more than
1200 different types of rice and pulses
creating not just employment but
opportunity for investment as well this
had this success has been repeated in
many cities and this has this has been
growing many folds and this is the fifth
edition giving us a view to what kind of
a collaboration can we create between
the urban and the rural sector for the
growth to happen and this is an historic
event which happened recently in your
nation this was organized by a
organization called mana Mukti Morcha
and this was to celebrate the birth
centenary of Raj Mathai Vijay Raja Sania
who who used to be a queen of your
nation and was put in the jail for
during the during emergency what we did
was they created a memorable historic
marathon wherein they got women to run
more than hundred
to run for 375 kilometers covering four
states and that that would culminate in
Delhi the the message was to take these
women through different parts of the
Bharat she she makes sure the stories
are shared make sure the knowledge are
assimilated and we create a better
society as we move towards our capital
one of the incident that I would want to
share is during this I was I was great
ungrateful – Masha watch PG for inviting
me to this to this historic event as a
delegate and during this I saw women
from places rather and amid villages so
remote that I couldn’t find them I could
only find the bluetick moving in the GPS
map I couldn’t find I couldn’t identify
the name they came in and they said that
they would want to share the success
story what with the success story they
had they had they were buying insurance
as their twenty-something women buying
insurances out of their own money which
they have earned from their business and
their business was run by taking mudra
loans from the government and which they
have returned before tenure that’s a
success story from my part that I would
want to share and that’s the very part
and India that we need to build and
here’s my story I’m grateful I saw a
pirate but I belong to an India where in
um you may still have to live within
your walls right you may still have to
live within your means you may still not
have a lot of money to invest in a
company and step they make it big make
it to take it to the Silicon Valley
that’s that’s why I need to share my
story as an MBA student during my last
term at XLR I I was I was shown
communities right large communities
which did interest me but did not
interest me sir to a certain point so
with the question I met a faculty of
mine dr. Madoka Shukla and I told him
that sir I did not like what I saw he
said why don’t you create your own
community which should be open anonymous
everybody can share whatever they want a
discussion forum free to use knowledge
base amazing revolutionary words I loved
it I am NOT an engineer so I did not
build it being
MBA student I googled it and I found it
on Google a site ajar name a community I
found it I joined it as a member just as
first day you must have logged into
Facebook I joined it as a member in few
months time I created a offline chapter
which spanned across the nation even
internationally and I got in touch with
the person who was building it and the
first call we decided that one day we
will give up our jobs and create a
community create a company out of this
four years of moonlighting back then it
was all hidden but because moonlighting
was not looked up to
but 2010 I joined the community as a
full-time or I become a partner and 2016
I used to work from a living room right
I had no investment to make no money to
invest
however in 2016 by 2016 we became one of
the top as per Alexa community bi I was
invited to Adobe San Francisco the the
Silicon Valley’s of the world and of
course I was in where I was honored as a
top hundred woman of my nation by the
President of India from my living room
no money not an engineer not from IIT
not an investment banker just a dream
would like to love to leave few words
with young to every woman here and
beyond this room mirror mirror on the
wall I will get up each time I fall
rather have to crawl limp or even look
small I will stand tall and claim it all thank you so much
