Why artists are never content with their work | Gregory Wahome & Lotfi Aden | TEDxYouth@AKAMombasa

[Music]
so please starting something you may not
know only 6% of all people ever going to
achieve the challenge
well if we didn’t know that she must
know that 90% of all business startups
fail within the first year books we know
and love like go to the flag high foot
Animal Farm rejected millions of tank by
publishers before they became the
masterpieces we know today when we are
courageous enough to dream as children
we set goals for ourselves but these
goals could be insurmountable an attempt
to reach them where our follow your
dreams and go by your back but let’s
simply a bit more complicated because
sometimes following your passion hurts
my name is my name is Gregory and we are
artists now all of you may have had
given something visually work before I
given that money now is your time who is
that to do with the deadline in the past
moment
come on guys I know some of you are
reading work on Monday submitting
great that nice causes to procrastinate
because usually the prospect of doing
work is so important we just opt out I
mean internal assessments intern
papers whose the time to that but
there’s a big part we’re not talking
about putting up internal assessments or
term papers because we’re too lazy to be
given them or we just want to catch up
on ecstasy no we’re talking about
something much more anything deep inside
your soul you see when you start to
gently when I said and grab these parts
for this will be the profession really
now usually if you’re inspired because a
violence poverty
it was brightly and passionately you may
be able to see validation by simply
being better than the competition and
this is where the first problem line as
you can see by this incredibly technical
procrastinator and then passionate are
the two factors are inversely
proportional you meet resistance on the
way and that diminishes your passion as
you will find competition and it will
scale to see the master of your craft
the amount of work you put in to get
where they are you may feel scared and
worse when you started out on a bit I
mean it’s a niche Karen she’s a lot
better looking for a legendary travel
the City of God but there are thousands
of others looking for that very same
tension so there is a giant snake
Cardinals now as we saw from that
picture carnival
about time I mean the treasure is the
hot damage on forests
mosquitoes alligators Jaguar you maybe
but we’re not talking about putting on
internal assessments alternatives when
it come to this sort of procrastination
we’re talking about something much more
dirty I mean well you don’t actually
want to do your work or tasks everybody
else trip and Kara Kara she seeks this
treasure he needs it I mean on
attractors wanted but the problem is can
i scan the fridge making the fridge
you’ll never see the tragedy she’s
afraid of losing out finding the
treasure that is so perfect so she
doesn’t she gives up on being a pension
and she doesn’t secret or no DNA
I mean it happens like that that’s a sad
story
well that’s real time position I mean
that’d be something we can do about it
right well this may sound cheesy so I
did this day remember what you started
guys I know this may seem like a fortune
cookie advice but where else to remember
your passion and where the original is
not remember where we started
interstate meditate and remember see the
goal is quite second
about it what matters is the beginning
of the journey and what keeps you in
reporting I mean it makes it very rapid
way but the best thing about being at
the beginning is the joy the very
important but the good thing about that
is when you have to date what you can’t
go any further down the only direction
is upwards and that means motivation so
probably change the story so Kyra what
is a bunch of Indiana tooth which gets
all fired up the battery room is a
firearm she gets a bunch of friends to
go along with she’s excited now Carol
with a firearm karate black belt and all
of her friends goes out to the city pool
and she finds it the end but that’s one
big question is she happy
I mean why wouldn’t she be she found us
a good well unless she found the city of
Goma and she was awarded she got five
she became rich in the tiger but did
that really make her happy again why
wouldn’t she be because it’s not enough
I mean her perfection the city boy was a
perfection because she didn’t think she
could reach it but now that she did it
might seem a bit cheap cheap the city of
go like five million dollars there’s
nothing cheap about that exactly
despite all her passion in a couple
crass narration mean she found the city
there’s still one last fatal blow but
reality it’s known as perfection
yes see many other cars at the week
and she didn’t expect to achieve it but
when she actually did she had nothing
else to do she feels quite empty she’s
too hungry
so what car needs to do like many other
author is to remember why she started
and appreciate her work itself
appreciation is to the review realizing
that what you did was commendable and
not in another self it’s really the only
way to appreciate yourself at this point
perfectionism isn’t a goal that respect
that you it’s a sport that is moving
through self appreciation so as we’ve
lacked self-love is the key and
self-appreciation will eradicate that
perfectionism
so listen I’m a writer that means I
create words but I also look at the
world and get to myself what a boring
world so I want to do something better I
want to make something better in fact I
will be better watching now I admit I
developed my creative talents writing
stories on plan fiction dotnet and every
story in and on the same note you just
abandoned
for all eternity I stopped writing and
it was because of one thing I didn’t
think the good from the personal and
objective point of view I read but that
the world is good and worth my time and
being that way I thought to myself if I
can’t really wanting good wash that than
anything at all so I just left it not
coming to my depression and I stopped
pouring my artistic journey but there
was something very curious about what
happened in every story in a
chronological order they became more
followings and more favorites I’m not
making these numbers up fellas like I
actually became better and realizing
this I realize that perfectionism just
helped me back while I thought I could
do better because I always routinize
myself I realized that I know that was a
mistake
I shouldn’t always move myself
well I spoke what I know so you know
what I get I just put it up over the
rock
and I just came up with a lot on the
spot and then I just kept writing to my
heart’s content without stopping cuz I
knew that if I stopped doing things I’ll
just I’ll just lose my abilities I know
that I’m imperfect
I know that I’m not good enough but I’m
getting them and that’s what makes it
happen that is my heart it’s Who I am
and I like replicates what I’ve seen you
see or to think about the perfect
segment in the straight line
it’s about the artists interpretation
the reason I consider myself quite skill
is because of the level of scrutiny I
applied myself if I have friends and
family to the same standard
well you receive my family and I have no
friends but it really what are the skill
tree was all the anxiety you get when
you looked up see what you created
problems done creative well as most of
my work is unfinished but I don’t think
that’s a bad the reason I was dead
finish them is because of this
perfectionism that we’re talking about
reaching that goal that pinnacle that
finished product it’s care
and I didn’t want to see it but now
recent fact I continue to draw
regardless of how it looks so far this
again part isn’t in the first example
since we planted a mistake is not a
blemish but a signature and that is my
art so Tweety protection must do the
following of the things you must
obviously again then when you lose
passion remember why you started and
weakened imagine
and at the end wants to do reach what
you think is the top remember appreciate
yourself remember what I started maybe
see yourself if that’s one thing I’d
like each and every person in this
bubble take away from this talk is to
remember why they slightly some of you
in the Diploma have picked subject which
you don’t be like right now some of you
who put work every week now pull it out
of love with the job but I need you to
understand this fella there’s a reason
we fix that work to remember that pilot
ignited and first real
