come from who knows who knows they’re
from Isis there are masses of young men
and beards singing Allahu Akbar
across Europe threatening our culture
our security our prosperity they should
be kept in Asylum camps to stop sexual
jihad and think of all the wonderful
things they’re bringing to Europe like
rape murder car burnings yeah this is
not a human terian mission this is just
a cold-hearted economic exploitation and
I know I know what I said earlier was uh
was rough it was it wasn’t nice to hear
but unfortunately these aren’t just
fictional statements or something that I
came up with this morning these are real
things that real people are thinking
about that are slowly turning into
policies I think that we’re going
through an epidemic of xenophobia
xenophobia being the fear of the other
for some reason we’re becoming more and
more anxious for people who look
different to have a different skin color
when the culture isn’t the same or even
the slide is different instead of
causing wonder and curiosity it actually
causes anxiety and fear and that’s the
it’s people are using this and it works
because that’s how human brains are
designed we when we sense danger we
distance ourselves that’s evolution and
unfortunately these exact mechanisms are
being used by people in power they are
driving us in a very particular
direction and that is away from each
other
now the more we distance ourselves from
the other who is supposed to be
dangerous the more reinforcing that very
fear so remember this and this is a
secret I think that the other I would
like to talk about is just as scared
they’re just as scared as us so this
other probably fled war probably fled
violence and
that we can’t even imagine in our lazy
chairs and this other probably fled
bombs and missiles being thrown on his
homeland but not just that he probably
also fled the very real possibility of
having to be that guy that drops the
bomb so in a way if you think about it I
think people hopefully are somewhat
heroes so remember this I don’t think we
need to take much longer we have these
wonderful people around and let’s do it
right now I want to introduce you to
Mohammed he is from each leap Syria on
the violin
then we’ve got kisser on the ODE which
is the Arab guitar from Aleppo then
we’ve got my hair on the drum from
Damascus my name is Matt hat I am from
Syria Damascus and I lived in the Gulf
area for many years I worked there and
when the war start they not renewing the
visas for any Syrians anymore they throw
me out no place well I have to go my
wife is Palestinian she cannot go
anywhere so the only choice was to flee
to Europe with all the people who is
doing that and that what I did my chance
brought me to Holland it’s a very nice
country very nice people but for Sri I
didn’t get my status they rejected my
asylum because my wife is living in the
Gulf area with their family and they
told me you cannot send you anywhere and
you have to stay here but you you cannot
stay in the camp even you have to go to
the street and that’s what happened
finally some friends find for me place
in the homeless shelter where I’m living
now and with all of that I still have
hope I’m still strong
and I’m still trying to give happiness
to other I like to give it to others so
I came here today to sink
to make you feel happy to show you some
songs about our culture
maybe you can’t feel it because the
music is an international thing you can
feel it everywhere will Hawaii
not digit
[Music]

[Music]
thank you I just want to say that this
TEDx platform has been a huge excuse for
me to make new friends really and I want
to say that once you do meet the other
they don’t remain the other any more
they might actually become your best
friend so go out there and broke those
break those stupid walls and please give
a big hand to dot out the band and for
making it so awesome [Applause]
