good evening everyone come on let’s talk
about something that we see every day
yet we ignore at most times I’m talking
about waste yes the concept of waste
does not exist in nature it is the human
consumption that creates it thus it
becomes our responsibility to get rid of
it and sustainably we hear a lot about
domestic waste and its need for
segregation but very little is discussed
about industrial waste which is again a
major cause of pollution take a look at
this or this have you ever wondered
these wastes in the landfills can look
something like these or these yes all
these products are made from industrial
wastes which otherwise would end up in
landfills let me explain how did it all
start today many startups have the
stereotype that our first day at work
will be something like there will be a
big office and hundreds of people
working for us well that notion is one
of the main reasons why a start-up
eventually fails so many people ask me
how did my first day at work look like I
just reply them with one thing this is
how my first air work looked like it was
next to a parking lot and it was in a
parking lot next to a smelly gutter but
with a vision and mine and the vision
was all it started when I was 11 years
old
chumhum was stuck on my pants and I
tried removing it but piece of paper so
I went back home I was very curious kid
at that time so did the same experiment
again and that was the reason why I came
up with the first brick now it never
looked like a brick back then but there
was something which always and that was
a time when I understood the word slums
and the
negativity that surrounded it so I
decided and I promised myself that one
day I’ll change the way we see slums to
be and the only reason how I could do
that was to follow a dream of making
world’s cheapest house and I have been
following that ever since then with the
same vision I started back in 2010 at
age 16 I sudden my company where we can
work that waste into this eco bricks
which in turn were used to make houses
and toilets you can see those
photographs right now so when I started
my company everyone thought I was crazy
they still do think that I am crazy but
the other problem was that waste was a
taboo and no one wanted to talk about
the industrial waste because it didn’t
earn a lot of money and it was
considered as useless the only two ways
they were able to get rid of that waste
was either incineration or by disposal
in the landfills so when I started my
company I started coming across a lot of
these ways so I decided to start making
use out of the useless so that is the
term which I named for the lab which I
founded in 2016 and today we convert 50
different types of industrial waste into
more than 150 products let me share with
you some of those products what looks
like a waste from an ATP plant of an
industry is now a paper block and even
roads what used to be an another plant
from a textile waste is now artificial
wood and last but not the least what
used to be a cloth of waste from a cloth
manufacturer is now used to make fodder
for kettles all this was possible
because we converted that industrial
useless into something useful but I
didn’t want to stop there I wish to
still do something more so I started
what I like to call as a micro social
enterprise
it simply means instead of making one
big factory we take those factories to
those villages where they’re actually
employment is needed and create
manufactory
so let me share with you story of Dina
she’s a widow and a mother of two
daughters we met her during a
construction of a toilet valve viewer at
her house and she came and asked me very
innocently via Thomas watch a light the
banoffee they do when one is hatchery
sky Rita it meant you made the raid the
toilet but how will I maintain it when I
asked her to explain why did she say so
she said I am uneducated I don’t have a
job I just sell pulses in a nearby
market I don’t have enough money to take
care of the structure so this led to me
thinking how about I start a micro
cottage industry for waste where women
like Tina can come down and understand
waste and also earn living out of it by
making creative decor items here at our
equal ID studios each woman is an
enterpreneur by herself and converts
these wastes into beautiful looking
decor they run this business from
centers or even their own homes so they
are not born to a particular time and
they can do their own work and unliving
out of it the process is very simple so
it’s not a complicated rocket science
that you have to follow the waste that
we needs to transform comes from the
landfills and is sent and it’s sent
along with the binder that will convert
that waste into something useful to
these micro factories where they are
molded and converted into blocks
now these blocks are then hand-carved
once they are dried using a mini
electric lathe with by this women and
then once they are ready they are
colored with eco-friendly colors we have
all different types of colors that are
available depending on the demand once
they are ready there once they are
packed they are ready to actually light
up the lives lights of your homes
even your hotels or work space there are
lots of the odd there are also products
out there but these are not just
products these are masterpiece
and to celebrate their hard work of the
women who do Stan we keep a unique
fingerprint marker that identifies this
product and appreciates and symbolizes
the uniqueness of each product that
these women make and you can see them
inscribed on every product that we make
now talking about how unique these are
so each is handmade and no two lights
are the same each lime helps recycle at
least 7 kgs of waste from entering a
landfill not only that it also each lamp
helps recycle 15.6 kgs of carbon
emission from entering the atmosphere
our concern does not stop there
our products are 90% recyclable thus we
are contributing to largely reduce waste
and for every product we sell we plant
one tree the concept this concept when
introduced has become an example for how
a useless thing can be a luxury item or
in fact a piece of art and decor but
with an added benefit of social impact
and providing employment to the women in
need and even education and a
matter-of-fact finish my name means
without darkness spreading light and I
have always wanted to live by what my
name stands for and I believe that that
can this can be done by empowering
uplifting and encouraging and educating
people to be sustainable and be
responsible towards their waste and
environment and in the process bring
smiles to everyone in need waste is
today’s goal we just need the right
tools to mind them and make them a
treasure salon for industrial waste is
what I run I convert waste useless into
something useful and that’s always been
my task those who are crazy enough to
think that they can change the world are
the ones that do it these are the famous
words of Steve Jobs and I’m always
inspired by that so today I want to tell
everyone
of you look around us consider
everything as useful remember nothing is
useless in this world what can be a
waste to you is someone’s treasure if I
can do it so can you
thank you [Applause]
