it’s not as easy as it sounds it’s not
as basic as it sounds two years ago I
was a very different person what does
this mean I say exactly what it means
despite amazing parents I felt I had no
sense of direction into my future
the future was empty so as you can see
on the screen behind me I’ve got a
picture of my mom and dads and they’ve
always taken care of me from a young age
and they’re always ever so supportive
one day I realized that my future was
like the tube network how damn boring oh
it’s more like a roller coaster at
Thorpe Park not scenery losses that have
made me really quite sick I realized I
was stuck in the queue watching people
make progress while my part of the queue
hadn’t moved yet this was until
Wednesday the 14th of September 2016 why
is this day so significant many of you
wonder it was the date of it marked the
start of my induction to becoming a
police cadet of Essex Police I completed
the 12-week induction course for many
connections between myself police
officers and police staff I was
officially made police cadet by
repeating the oath on the 18th for
January 2017 as you can see on the
screen I’ve got a parade photo from when
I very first started and it feels like a
world of old ago I still have access to
a range of championships of our units
which would take me completely out of my
comfort zone where I meet many amazing
people from other units and I talked to
many of them on a daily basis and
they’re great people to talk to and
share experiences with soon after I
learned that policing is a little TV
claimed it to be it was something better
is that making connections in the
community to bring results and talking
to them on a human level using this I
built loads and loads of confidence I
applied for the position of depth chair
boy here at past moss in September 2017
faithful I would lose I was questioning
myself am i aiming too high I sung the
words I’m only human after all to a one
or 1077 students at Parsons Academy to
amaze the people vote for me and unlike
to me could I have done this without the
connection between me and I see
police I don’t think so I collected my
Fast Pass and ventured to the streets
with the constables this made me look
back at why I was so far in the queue
it’s because of my autism which wasn’t
diagnosed until October 2015 at the age
of 12
despite being high-functioning it still
poses its challenges to day-to-day life
she’s a diagnosis story from seeking
connections and limit my present
potential the answer is no the diagnosis
enabled me to understand myself better
if people to understand me much better
here are just a few things I’ve done
since what all my connections have made
I’ve become a cadet team leader I’ve
completed my brothers Duke of Edinburgh
I’ve attended over 40 incidents shadowed
to arrests become past mores head boy
and puts us on participate in a
parliamentary debate another remarkable
example in how you can make progress in
life is treasuring the people that you
have around you and stepping out of your
comfort zone using the connections you
have so I’m in the top left you’ve got a
picture of my family who are as I said
before the most closest people and next
that you’ve got a picture of a million
pieces Oconee over there in the audience
who has given me endless opportunities
that I can thank him enough for and then
below that you’ve got a piece of real
pants that’s with Peter Cooney in the
audience there it’s been absolutely
amazing he’s the one that introduced me
into Police Cadets and I wouldn’t be the
person now
if it wasn’t for him introducing me to
it and then you’ve got my Duke of
Edinburgh group in the top right corner
I think that’s a common sight for all of
us walking walking walking that’s all we
did and then you’ve got my friend Molly
in the pit on the slide as well she’s
amazing I can talk to about anything
same goes to lily Pearson as well
absolutely amazing and then you’ve got a
picture of my dog Tallulah she was
brought as a family pet but in actual
fact she was a therapy dog
she made his survivors pretty I was good
with pretty much any dog after and I
couldn’t thank my mom and dad enough for
giving me the opportunity to take care
of such an amazing animal one of my
biggest one of my biggest inspirations
for my granddad’s he showed me that if I
had any goal I could score it and he his
previous achievements got me thinking
he was a counselor for 11 years and
sheriff Haller counsel from these 2000
and 2001 you show me is the little
things that mattered when you’re making
progress for every chocolate barn for
every funny story that he told me it
made all the difference when I was
making progress my name’s Harry Beavis
and I’ve come here today show you that
anyone can be part of a connection or
help some making it connection I’ve come
here to change perceptions as well not
like the way they’re doing Channel four
but in a human way let the possibilities
be endless
well then thank you backstage you’re one
of the coolest cucumbers there you feel
ok is that that was easy
yeah I think I think the blood pressure
and heart rates gone down a lot okay red
rather than blue affair yeah okay what’s
um why did you choose particularly
please do getting I think it’s because
you watch it so much on TV and you think
wow what a job that he’s putting
something back into the community
whereas I actually wanted to get
involved with that and yeah I look at
that as a future career I fully admit
that I’d see that as my future career
and I want to get involved with
everything that’s going on to get
involved get to get involved what’s been
the hardest part of it you talk about
the training the things that you’ve
attended which was the one that you
thought might what might put you off um
obviously you see it on TV sometimes you
do see the nicest of things but I get
taught in such a way by the brilliant
officers in everything at Harlow that no
matter what happens you work as a team
to overcome that which is just amazing I
couldn’t thank my team enough know
everything that done brilliantly to
thank everybody so publicly today which
is again we talked about the attitude of
gratitude is it’s great so so the times
where you feel where things are hardest
having a team around you allows you to
to get by yeah can talk you can ask you
about the autism as well yeah yeah how
would you describe that having autism
being autistic whatever however you want
to phrase it how would you describe that
says just somebody else to help them
understand you see the world in a
completely different way so you’ll see
an open door whereas I think why’s the
door open see the minds think of
different ways so you we see the you’re
sitting I think you know why is nobody
shut that door yeah yeah yeah no it
doesn’t move me the noise close to door
is just example yeah okay okay and how
do you deal with that as I said by using
the people around you and talking to
them and explaining things as well yeah
okay and you would recommend what would
you say to somebody who’s saying I’m
thinking about police cadet but I’m not
sure I don’t know what to do I might be
army or Navy or something else what
traffic warden uniform it’s an amazing
experience and I think anyone who gets
the opportunity to be a part of it may
all I can say is make the most of it
it’s a brilliant thing to be a part of
and just don’t miss it don’t make the
make the most of the opportunity
while the doors are open yes thank you
very much [Applause]
