The Pursuit of Normal | Jehan Daboo | TEDxNUJS

on the day I was born I was not a baby
that was a patient I think for my life
when I didn’t even know what life was I
was given a line of treatment that went
horribly wrong for me on depo of my
existence I was lying on a hospital bed
in Mumbai
surrounded by doctors surgeons and
medical staff all waiting for my bottle
to get me some much-needed not required
for my second life-saving transfusion my
mother tells me I might post three days
of existence I’m almost died in around
Peter now give in the back I meant
bilirubin levels as shown up to 30 feet
the normal up enemy being just 2.5 the
doctor I told my pear and brain damage
was inevitable a three-month it was
confirmed I had a profound going gone
and I was also diagnosed with new old
Buffalo pop ping I content me in COBOL
with no sound therefore no speed and
very limited movement my parents never
saw it that Pedro as they wanted to meet
later on in life he never ever once look
back at what life would have been they
focused their entire mental physical and
emotional energy on the single-minded
mission of ensuring that their start
would be indeed a normal iron.most of us
was I think normal physical faculties
it’s a given something we take for
granted advice live in peace for me
however to be normal because of it to be
Norman had begun my parents and later on
I do did not know how far we would need
to go how long we would need to run for
whether or not we would even reach our
destination all we knew is that the
forsooth of normalcy we have to learn
so mean and just like every other child
I had on a griddle childhood of food
homework and playtime defense I was to
have a special routine on the TiVo
better be the one to listen and speak
neon developmental therapy group
mobility and strength in my joints and
muscles
I had these sessions actinic one-on-one
sessions at home I had joy in eight
tries everything I had to dance on
ginger here at maintenance of my
equipment became a part of my life but
that is not all I started doing things
showing those would perhaps not dream of
entering into I started to learn to play
the piano and I started going / speech
and drama plastered I still remember my
fourth piano recital at the age of seven
it was with my sister it was in front of
an audience and it was an indeed an
amazing moment for me I tend to see
tactical exams in piano and infinity and
to Trinity pure exam and mi possibily
exam has got a perfect on without a
hundred my parents tell that to all of
this I never once complained about all
the things I had to do my mother tells
me when I was a few months old
I suggest wake up in the middle of the
night suddenly and I would give a big
smile and I would want to play in fact
these tears that this went on for New
Year’s
I’ll just wake up in the middle of the
night smile and then just fall back to
sleep It was as if something within me
was helping me not only to cope but also
just time for more at the age of 70 I
took the package and slowly but surely
it became a way of life for me I was
part of the prestigious doctor / to come
back into the center in Mumbai and I
just became a multiple our journey
sometimes even twice to take a pause
booth and after school
week in and week out badminton is a game
of corn coverage speed agility and
football by my mobility and strength
hidden clue I still found it difficult
given the level I was coaching at
fortunately I inherited my parents
outlook towards life
don’t look back a borderline could have
been rather look ahead at what you
wanted to be I participated in
tournaments all over the country and I
barely ever made it beyond the initial
loss every loss was a disappointment for
me and the losses for many the one thing
I never already long was born I kept at
it knowing that someday I was going to
go beyond where I wore my force mood for
normalcy was now being to play and I
pursued for accident in 2011 I was
called first electrician and a camp to
lockdown to represent India at the world
deaf badminton championship having per
year in Lucknow
it was the first time now staying away
from home away from my family all alone
our strength staying with strangers
although who permits anatomy and they
only communicated in sign language I
didn’t know any sign language I slowly
settle down I learnt a bit of sign
language and I got useful living on my
own but most importantly I learned to
enjoy myself in I I just the age of 14
your first tours in to play first
country in Korea I had just got one man
but that man spent better than all the
other matters I had ever won so far I
also receive a silver medal for being
the youngest player of the championship
It was as if there’s enough knowledge
meant of all the effort and the hard
work I had put in all throughout my life
now standing Europe when I look back at
that moment I realize how important it
is to recognize not just the treatment
but also effort in 2015 is the highest
point of my career I won the bronze
medal for me
hood in men’s fingers at the world deaf
youth badminton championship standing on
that podium was an amazing achievement
for me and it made me appreciate things
it reminded me of my sacrifice and the
sacrifice of my family have got me there
they ship this city’s it in schools and
George my sister’s life was uprooted
when we shifted to Mumbai my family ran
around my survival and then the under a
cloud of Perpetual uncertainty I played
that tournament with any injury or bath
and I could do so only because I knew
how to overcome and stop see like I had
always done right from the moment I was
born at the end of 2015 I made a
decision I chose to leave the sport this
was the cause no matter the stuff said
on the phone I was not happy in life I
had lost a lot of my friend you know my
constant focus and attention towards the
sport I had a lot of feeling in living
I was simply done and this time I
stopped him and asked lowly walked back
with the living your life as sometimes
you must be the things he loved in order
to move ahead in life I chose to pursue
long and I took no Instagram and I
landed up an esper got off one of the
best lawyer universities in the country
at this university I interacted with a
variety of people and they never ever
saw any difference even company made
sure I was okay especially my classmate
who understood i acquirements in
specially me when it came to my steering
unfortunately in the postmaster
I felt incredibly sick and I had lost my
way in the ball while recuperating back
at momentum by a Yola
that law is in port
passionate about and I chose to talk
about after that I had six to seven
months of doing nothing
especially awkward and depend for me in
the beginning because all my life I had
something to do I was constantly focus
of concentrating on something or the
other right from the time I was three
months old oddity verbal therapy neon
developmental therapy speech and drama
piano fashion school it was a relentless
theme of overcoming things one by one by
one by one it was a tragedy and I was so
startled I realized but I could use this
opportunity while I took a bit of time
to relax and reflect on myself it was
the first time in the 19 years of my
existence there you only think of
measure of my life and what I was
passionate about it’s not the time I was
essential to me as I could do the simple
things
whenever you’re ready good before and
enjoy them going out for dinner with
friends going to the movies with friends
going out Monday night Drive spending
time with family all of these things
became very important to me it made me
appreciate things other than the sword
forces of Normandy and the pursuit of
excellence when the time came to move
ahead I realized what I was passionate
about and I chose that path I also went
back to play mackleton
but this time for this your enjoyment
and pleasure of playing the sport I
think a to death national championship
last and I want Google and abroad in
each of them I also played at the
Deaflympics
into Alaska for India ping then we have
in hand at the beginning from the
support of various people my family and
their institution I overcame throughout
my life I have come across the most
beautiful
people who have helped me along my
parents my sister my family my teachers
coaches doctors surgeons help and
friends have all conspired to help me
make me what I am today in all our life
there are so many people who silently
contribute to up to our West and to
aware me in the same way we do
contribute to other day by creating a
virtuous cycle of positivity and
gratitude it is not only people we know
but for pets angels who enter our life
of eating moments but leave huge impacts
for example on the blind I’m about to
Mumbai and I was just furious over I
almost died
ah swatting at the mouth but a mind
doctor on the plane attended to me and
Steve my life my dad does I mean he went
to get blood from the bank they did not
have any ice to keep it chilled for the
local train ride he was sitting back to
the hospital so he went to a local sugar
cane juice vendor and beg for some eyes
the man they’re dealing appliance even
though my dad the Carmichael something
good I got some fine I think in my case
to life I struggle to eat normally but
when I got there I stroke of all I truly
believe that I have to eat somewhere in
life there’s so much more I want to do
and so much more I want to achieve I’m
going to go ahead just gave me as I
always have
just smile on my face and a belief and
the spread that anything is possible
from a kid who couldn’t walk properly
and have to wear thin finish shoes oh
man
represent with the country six times
including in – definitely
and one of God’s mother’s first
countries at the world kept you from a
kid who couldn’t stop properly I have to
learn me listen and speak
oh man who’s standing you right in front
of you giving this book I am eternally
grateful
it has been an awesome journey
