today about life in academia a big part
of academic life it’s submitting
articles and papers and abstracts to
conferences and journals and then
getting them peer-reviewed now we’ve
written a song where we have a
representation of three different styles
of review it starts out pretty nice and
then it just goes downhill from there so
sorry about that this was a quite
exciting text your message clear but
still complex just do some changes and
it should pass through yeah I like the
style the groove the beat it’s like it
could have been made by me you write
with style and grace just like I do yeah

and then comes the next one which is
just a little bit meaner well your text
is nice but one thing disturbs you used
too many fancy words the theory and
jargon overthrew you though the
literature you cite is bold you aren’t
citing me at all and for this lack of
manner I will screw you they’ll review

wish I could be nice to you appreciate
the work you do but you don’t really
care for research do ya

don’t resubmit no minor flaws just major

now that was sort of depressing and we
really don’t want to end this on a
depressing note because even though life
in academia can be brutal and hard
emotionally
there is light
an academic life can be nice especially
if you get accepted at first I was
afraid I was petrified thinking of all
this time I wasted from my precious life
and I spent oh so many nights reading
previous research and I grew wise and I
learned how to analyze and then I worked
like scholars do ed her at all wicked
comments from reviewers 1 & 2 and I
spent oh so many nights changing what I
did before but now I’m done and I sent
the paper to the edit are gone now go
try out the door just turn around now
cuz I won’t work on you no more I know
reviewers tried to break me weathers
and I have all my stuff to rights and I
will love it if you fight then I’ll
survive I will survive

it took all the strength I get trying
hard to mend the pieces of my broken
heart and I spent oh so many nights
feeling sorry for myself I used to cry
but now I hold my head high and you see
me somebody new I’m not that little star
