right ok so my name is Ed Gein and I am
a multi-instrumentalist live looping
performer
basically what it is that I do I have a
loop pedal here on the floor and I will
record and lay it together the loops and
samples of all these instruments that I
have around me basically has a record
button on it if I press the record
button it record into me of what I put
through the loop through the mic the
bass wherever I want to start it with
when I press the button again it plays
it back and that’s when I can record
other instruments on the top layer cool
button it record into me of what I put
through the loop through the mic also
has an undo button so it also has these
three record
instruments onto each packed bass
separately then I can bring them in and
out and add dynamics to the song oh and
the most important thing is the first
loop that you do I’ve set this pedal up
so that it quantizes to the first loop
which means they’re already to the same
length that’s the first one you do so
the first one is really important so
I’ll give you a quick example with my
flute if I put the main loop down the

okay so then I go to the second patch
and I can put down some more fruits that
I can bring in and out
so that’s the k6 is now a little works i
want to tell you a little bit more about
it before i play your proper song
basically it’s been around a really long
time it’s been around a lot longer than
I’ve been doing it I’ve been doing it
for ten years ten years ago a lot of
people didn’t have a clue what the new
thing was they basically just thought I
was playing – backing tracks which was a
bit frustrating seeing that’s not what
it is at all it’s all live looping
there’s no pre recordings or anything so
it was a bit frustrating but nowadays
it’s becoming much more popular because
there’s been some mainstream artists who
have been using it in their sets which
is great next month I’m going to be
going to California to play an
international live looping festival and
it’s not just in California it’s in
Mexico there’s one in the Philippines
there’s one in Australia so basically
it’s all over the world which is
fantastic so it’s it’s getting more and
more well-known and everyone I see who
does it is completely different
completely unique there are people who
do it who just use their voices there’s
a lot beatboxes who do it there’s people
who use just one instrument there’s this
lady I saw not that long ago just using
a heart and it sounded beautiful but the
thing is is everyone who does it it’s
unique to them and when you play in a
band everybody who plays an instrument
has their own style so it’s an an
undiluted way an uninfluenced way of
making music and with that we know I’m
gonna play you another song so this is a
very new song that has no name but I
only wrote it the other day and I like
to put pressure on myself so I thought
I’d try and play one I haven’t finished
