looked out the sky so shooting star
now this brief fleeting moment of a
shooting star enlightened his small and
tiny little heart he looked up right to
the sky and wished wished that a day
would come where he could ride a
shooting star not yet a toy or go to the
moon or anything but ride a shooting
star now the boy has come quite away and
he knows that even going near a shooting
star is enough to kill him that boy
right now could be anywhere he could be
doing anything at this Junction for
example he could be sipping coffee with
Barack Obama president of the debating
society of his crew or he could be
listening to JK Rowling’s hit new single
Avada Kedavra in her album that which
shall not be named a diverging universe
we probably heard that term a number of
times in the past and certainly a number
of times today but I’m gonna give you a
bit of science along with its most
favourite companion which is definitely
fiction now the speaker before me had
her views on parallel worlds and
parallel realities but I’d like to
express something a bit different I was
a little kid obviously and I used to be
this mischievous kind of kid we used to
do so many different things and then get
into trouble for it and I so hoped that
the next day when I woke up in the
morning
I will be in a completely different
universe but I hadn’t committed that me
so much for eating extra brownie is how
the point I want to convey is that our
world diverges whenever we make a
decision that can have multiple outcomes
based on our choice now I don’t have a
big fancy prop but I do have two small
pieces of dice when I shake them
together in my hand what number would
you expect anyway I got the number two
right now just because of this one small
insignificant role eleven more universes
are created just with the probabilities
that I did not get the two that I got
right now maybe I could have gotten two
twelve maybe a five who knows
universes are created after every single
choice that we make well you all must be
wondering well that’s actually pretty
amazing there is so many universes but
sadly to burst your bubble we can’t
travel to them nor can we prove their
existence and there’s another flaw in
this and I’d like to go to string theory
for that now before you all think it’s
some sciency complicated thing just
listen to me some parallel universes are
so radically different than our own
universe that they follow completely
different fundamental laws of physics
maybe light isn’t array maybe the fatter
you are the faster you can run but
anyway moving on
you might be thinking again they might
be infinite means but I’m the only me in
this universe so I’m important has
anyone heard no man’s best friend Google
calm but goog or L can have a show of
hands so for those who don’t know
is the number 10 raised to the power 100
this number is so unimaginably large
that if our universe was as big as a
Google it will be impossible yes
impossible to not find another you who
has the exact same molecular arrangement
and structure tesam plea isn’t enough
probabilities for matter to be arranged
in its that big of a space so if they’re
infinite means anyone here heard of last
Thursday ISM ok nice so again for those
who don’t know
last Thursday ISM is a belief that the
universe was created last Thursday and
all our experiences before that are just
fabricated pieces of information that
the universe put together in our heads
but if the universe began Thursday what
about the time that I saw the Avengers
second part it was so real Ultron looks
so tiny in that theater my memories feel
so good memories it is that ladies and
gentlemen
that preserves our identity so go on
make your memories it’s the only thing
that sets you apart from the rest of
this world and the rest of this universe
it is only you who can be you so take
that chance and in the words of the
famous Russell Peters take it the goal
just take it and go my next story is
about another little kid this time it’s
a girl and she had a dream
she dreamt that she was in a
rollercoaster
not just any rollercoaster mind you a
roller coaster through the universe all
the way from the Eagle Nebula to the
Taurus constellation she went in roller
coaster ride at the speed of light when
she woke up she was a changed spirit she
felt that everything in this world
everything around her was just
insignificant compared to the massive
universe that we live in wherever we did
whatever we had our forms our
technological advancements nothing
compared to what the universe hadn’t
stopped for us this is what we call an
existence your crisis and the prime
question of existence is why am I here
what purpose does the universe hold for
me why am i a part of the only planet
that we know of yet with life why she
kept pondering on this topic for quite a
while and to no extent really because
she couldn’t define what humans were
truly meant for has anyone seen the
movie interstellar yes obviously all of
you might have in this movie the main
star Matthew McConaughey and his crew
members go to a planet that is very
close to a black hole and in that planet
one R is equal to 7 years on earth I was
here talking about the insignificance of
human identity and time something that
we hold so important in our lives that
is also actually pretty insignificant
see I stayed on that planet for a year
for those who can’t do the math on earth
we would cross sixty one thousand three
hundred and twenty years in that time I
could have finished studying I could
have done everything I could have lived
a hundred lives probably even more
for those who still can’t fathom this
unimaginable amount say it takes around
35 to 40 years to do a PhD from birth
you will be able to do 400 million PhDs
in that amount of time and that is truly
unimaginable come on think of it the way
that we are moving right now
the size of a Google and the probability
of going to another planet and having a
life is very close and so with so many
things going on around you what can you
do what can you do to have your name on
a plaque card that says I did this I
helped to contribute to something that
improved this world some theories state
that there are universes inside atoms or
inside small specks of dust or sand in
one of dr. Seuss books horton and who
and the who is there is a there’s an
elephant named Horton he finds a speck
of sand and here from that sand he hears
a voice he thinks it’s just one tiny
little person sitting on a piece of sand
and he was to protect that small piece
but soon after he finds out that there’s
a whole planet and a whole community
going by the name of who will that lived
inside that one small speck of sand let
me go let me give you there’s a fun fact
there is so much of space in between the
atoms that if P were to remove all of
this and compress it all into one small
tiny piece the whole earth would fit in
the of a sugar cube one small sugar cube
in the sands of the yep
so what can we do what can we take away
how can we show that our identity is
significant to the world I have three
small advices to give you first thing
let the past go what happened happened
time travel is not invented yet and I
don’t think it’s going to be there any
time soon so it’s better to let go of it
look towards the future the present is
more significant than the past and the
future is even more significant because
we don’t know where the hole is yet the
second it’s okay if you fail trying to
do something great if you’re reaching
for the stars you grabbed up raised your
hand very high and you try to grab the
star and then and you open your hands
it’s not nothing that you find it’s one
fresh hand full of air keep that in your
mind yes I know it might sound funny but
the philosophy behind it is actually
really cool keep trying until you try to
succeed and my last final point is
expect the unexpected
even if someone shows up who can do
everything that you do price is better
and I’m sure that is going to make all
the difference so ladies and gentlemen
in the grand scheme of things do you
have your identity are you still you
thank you [Music]
