Selling Sushi in an Idli shop | Bruce Lee Mani | TEDxMEC

yeah so I hi everybody hope you enjoy
your tea
I have an unusual title for my
presentation and I have a mutual named
white form placement up sleeve but yeah
myself sushi and weekly shop and Bruce
Lee money is my name so let me set the
record straight I am NOT a an oriental
restaurant or a chef
trying to solve some ridiculous problem
of 9% switching and initial position and
position with a bank from Bangalore
actually announced its it’s an English
and I’ve been in that bank for the last
22 like so before I talk about this
question power I’m proposing to answer
it I just have to tell you that that’s
my mother and she heard about she
thought about this talk I was doing and
as you can see by her appearance she’s
traditionally brought up South Indian
woman and so she naturally wanted to
know what who she was I had to explain
actor who she was and this was the
immediate and visceral response so so
it’s this when I was asked to speak
about selling sushi in Italy and
relating that to my trendy music and
everything else this was the first thing
I had to share anyway so why some sushi
and Italy shocked why even ask the
question well the point is if you’ve
there are lots of questions you have to
ask yourself this just happened to be
one of them and I’m going to attempt to
find an answer to why sell so she a
little shocked with two or three
different things one here is a question
of identity who we are to is the
question of falling in love with
something and staying true to that love
for as long as you possibly can and
three is finding the right reasons to
hang on and keep doing something
stay include who you are and what you
fell in love with okay so let’s start
itself is in this is in this is in this
is in this is these are both this is
this and of course the second one is
English the way it is used in a very
much in this country but the really
interesting part of this thing is that
the karada lip ring on top says pick
nish waist part so in a way it is
phonetic is faith better than the
English is written below it so if you if
you do know English at all you could
read the Quran avoid City Nevada
you read weak nation based marketing
pronouncing the words exactly correctly
without knowing what
so this is so behind and towards the end
he says to the rich and chaotic variety
of the human experience if you can look
at someone and say hey I think you were
a stonemason just fallen on hard times
there could be so many explanations for
the way someone looks of it or the way
that so it’s really difficult to
encapsulate the Indian experience in
simple terms which is why when it came
so we call our style music bangle after
spending many years working with hideous
hyphenated terms to come up with what
was the kind of music that we played
right and the bank thermal and a quarter
also was named because it was formed it
and because we are because so we’ve come
out who we are how we define ourselves
what we love now the third thing is
about finding the right reasons to keep
doing improvising adapting and
overcoming authority doing what you love
and staying true to who you are so I
must bring a transformational experience
that we had at the fringe so for those
of you don’t know the fringe is the
largest Arts Festival in the world it
happen is in August every year 26
Knights back-to-back non-stop over 3,000
artists
every conceivable kind of common up
performing our content and play the
whole city hosts the festival so you
have bones bobs coffee shops bookstores
sellers train stations bus this
everything becomes and it comes 26x back
to back right so playing at the finish
I can choose 2000cc the venue it’s my
choice we booked the front rosita when
you state save it we have to book and
you ever do this all three or four
months in advance
and pay of course so the only way that
we understand that we make it through
this will come out the other end of the
range and not be disastrously it is that
if we bring people to our shows every
single night for 26 nights and nobody
knows us there nobody knows so at the
Fringe you will see artists like this so
this is the times around standing up
madam is underway theta acts still-life
acts outlandish costumes the whole city
is was easy for those 26 nights that I
mentioned but yes so how do you start
bringing people with your show so the
so is that you try to do this five to
six hours per day if you want people to
come to your show
we spent five hours on the street
wearing and giving out flyers five to
six hours a day that’s right at the geek
itself now the theater we directed you
see all web stuff on stage visible drunk
so you get an empty stage and your
performance type is about 45 50 minutes
you get an empty stage and you get seven
minutes to put that entire economic
seven minutes to get all that kicked
onto stage why don’t we now check it be
ready when you first people start
walking in seven minutes once the people
walking you’ve got to do your best you
might have a full house you might have
100 people you might have four people my
time seven people doesn’t matter your
best right the next picture in fact is
very artfully done by a photographer
there you can’t see so you play your gig
the best you can and then you have nine
minutes to break everything often give
you a three stage again and you do this
twenty six nights back-to-back okay
you also take every available
opportunity to play so when you’re on
the mile somebody is a church I call
that video create so what you want so we
play the judges we played it in foam
things we played that’s me busking
wearing October made that sauce play
another church and this is whole thing
about the gig is important no matter how
many people are in front of you whether
you’re playing on the street or you’re
playing in an ice skater every single
thing that you do in doing what you love
right he is super important that you
give it to your heart and ten percent so
one of the nights when we had nine
people one of the people sitting in
there was reviewer and another person
was someone who picks a showcase artist
basically you’re picked among many other
acts of it into showcase a special event
integrate more people right so we were
part of this thing cause a pic of the
fringe and the NS vessel we also won an
award called the spirit of the fringe
award which is given on it with seven
people among the 3,000 participate so it
matter how hard work if who you are and
what you’re doing you will do whatever
it takes
continue being you have and continue
doing so this is this is a story of this
is staying true to who you are falling
in love with something finding something
to love and doing that your own life
finding the right of reasons to keep
doing that and not changing
despite what may happen despite who’s
listening who’s not just keeping it
going because there’s nothing else that
you can do so since we’re talking about
sushi and Italy shops I want to play the
song for you and hopefully listening to
it
I’ll have sold you some sushi even
this is summer seen selling sushi in
