Living in Your Truth | Tishana Leigh Pentley | TEDxEMUniversity

so I read an article recently and it
described living in your truth to be a
series of conversations so the
conversation but conversations with
people who grade me and gracefully share
the truth of their life
meat emotions life experiences those
dreams the point is these conversation
works about hope that would inspire and
challenge each of us to find our own
truth
I know it sounds simple but the catch is
that in order to live in truth or even
speak your truth you must first reflect
on what the truth is
and that can be challenging for some for
one I recognize that for years I’ve been
disguising my vulnerabilities and
actually crafting illusions of myself
that meet society’s expectations and
definition so to stand and see my true
today
I took on the challenge to know my truth
speak my truth so that I needed my truth
and I will share with you the story of
my life of Game five for the 10 days of
July they wrote our the victim of sexual
abuse a terrified young child imprisoned
by the walls of an unsafe secret
conceived by little box of concentrated
verses if you ever tell anyone you’ll be
be in trouble no I will not be anymore
no one
you’ll be put on to see my trash and
ecology die and not a single freshman
working I was emotionally tracked for a
very long time
the recluse mistress my vehicle consumed
by fear and very much to believe this
place but all the strength enough for me
when I decided that I want to protect
and I had summed up just enough with
courage in spite of fear to speak out
rather than continue to face a monster
of my secret and that was by far my
first and truest lesson of inner
strength and faith over fear that those
chains of fear that I was so tightly
bound by on the adequate break through
not allowed back here to break me until
do I know my high school where I
discovered that I was different
I only thirteen to society no and I knew
his age with a minority oh he’s great I
was mocked and ridiculed for being
different
allow me to elaborate I have a product
of a multiracial multi-generational mix
of Indian Zimbabwean and British
ancestry so for a long time I want
comments like what are you and
you’re different
as you can imagine the slaughter
rejected by people here my teenage yet
so to make up what I’m Maxine a la me I
decided to become of people eager to be
valued and accepted by others such a
cliche and I mean tht I know but he got
better because everything changed for
the better
when I met a group of seven girls that
teaching changed my life
we had move up moon heal up next to me
Hawaii safety and time enough I know
that those names to you but to me they
represent the power awesome that fuels
my self-confidence and myself with that
told me that I do have a voice and
that’s what I did was worth mentioning
I would like to inspire you today for
those of really shiny as I want to even
considered why hit me to thinking of me
then your voice does matter and that it
is worth mentioning in no opinion should
come and to their shoulders I’ll be
forever grateful because without him I
wouldn’t even be standing here today at
the end of my glorious I sustained an
average student the average case I was
soul really for the news chapter in my
life
grab life by the or things finally
become the responsible adults we all do
don’t we anger but little did I know
that life is not handed to me in the
form of quantifying moments sitting in a
how was your session I came over the
next eight months in sable surgery and
in distress to doctors appointment
Pharmacy I would cry myself to sleep on
so many night for watching my own mother
I will go such an unbearable okay again
discomfort and knowing that there was
nothing that I could do to help
entertain at the time my father was
looking out of attraction so I have to
take on the Balkan Peninsula visit and
as I’ve mentioned before that variation
of being a responsible adult animation
was now acknowledging that becomes a
time when those who have enjoyed and
depended on would now any time any time
yields all would save us and Stacy
available site Lexington bullfighter and
I’m thankful enough to say that today my
mother happy and healthy and wait
patiently for me to finally syndrome all
the vacation by trauma surgery treatment
time heals all wounds
it’s taken me twenty three years and a
so we got me thinking maybe time heals
all wounds in and of itself was not
completely true but rather consciousness
intention and constant effort
consciousness knowing that you’re in a
situation or were in your situation the
intention to overcome and by the bug and
climbing in constant efforts accepting
that image is a process and that
sometimes solution that breakthroughs
don’t happen overnight
but I do promise you that he can easly
in your mind with a lot of powerful
mental shift that will help you look to
your truest potential to be confident in
your own skin and confident in who you
are and that you are unapologetic sweet
enough
so with this I’d like to tell you that
this is the first time I’m changing my
story and I hope I’ve encouraged
somebody today to not hide behind like
an example saga what to say embrace your
truth allow us to take in your life
because even fully into 10 tips back
consciously you just elevated your
thinking your perception is that for
women
you’re falling is getting back up but
you’ll learn it and that’s the beauty of
elevation you’re always like this
– actually no powerful file camera
trained to know the truth speak the
truth and the field shoes because it is
the conversation worth having thank you [Applause]
