I’m from a city by the name of Dairy
Beach Florida
it sounds like a great place right well
the majority of the city is a great
place but I’m part of the city where no
one really goes and no one really talks
about in my neighborhood I grew up with
a lot of children who were dreamers we
all wanted to be something great in our
future but there was a singer musician
artist or a Athenee
we all had passion for success we would
see the nice cars pass by our
neighborhood looking to go downtown and
have dinner and my neighbors and friends
was scream out that’s my future car no I
already called out when that’s mine he’s
had a crime rate in my community meaning
children couldn’t reach their potential
by simply being in the wrong place at
the wrong time
there were drive-bys gang violence and
armed robberies where children were
somehow involved but for the most part
there was an imaginary barrier leading
to an open door where most children in
my community who are hesitant to pass
these open doors are bridge ways an
opportunity for someone to make a change
in their life for most of these those
people where I grew up
these doors are closed tight and double
log due to circumstances beyond our
control for example I was the witness of
being somewhere at the wrong time my
friends and I were shooting basketballs
outside of a local park one day after
practice in two local gang rivals had a
shootout with each other with my friends
and me directly in the middle of it I
have seen many a church and lose their
drive and just settle for something that
was easy to achieve like joining a gang
or even or robbing a store to make quick
money it’s not easy when all the doors
in front of you are closed so I had to
pry my first door open myself was my
passion for basketball and Drive I was
able to beat the odds and become an
example for young kids in Vero Beach but
it didn’t come easy that door was closed
tight since the third grade I made the
decision to outwork everyone else
because I knew I wanted
go to the NVA and get out of the bubble
which surrounds in my city without a
father figure I self-taught myself a lot
of basketball skills from watching
videos on YouTube to even watching older
guys at the park play I don’t know how
to shoot the ball correctly and dribbled
until I was good enough to be a part of
a travel team rocket didn’t have some
support from my coaches I spend most of
my free time playing basketball my gene
never changed I was just a kid with a
passion to play basketball and chase my
dreams it became a lot harder to
continue this simple path of following
my dreams when I became a little older
I’ll be scared until my classmates and
teachers and share Intel days what I
wanted to be when I would get older
because I knew they’ll laugh and say
that’s ridiculous and me believing them
would affect the way I practice and
worked out I was say to myself this is
so stupid
I’ll never make it it’s so hard and
chances are so low I was a fourth grader
thinking these thoughts most children
experienced their first dream killer
when they’re in elementary dream killers
are not always peers there are adults
who destroy children’s dreams every day
with short hurtful statements such as be
more realistic
you should be something that you know
you can do you have to have a plan B and
C and Clegg’s
in case plan a doesn’t work out for you
doesn’t seem so bad of a statement
coming from adults but trust me it
crushes children I’ll rather fail trying
my best and to have someone tell me I
can’t do it and don’t try i had an
awakening call when I was looking at
motivational posts and hang on my wall
when I came across a famous quote by
inspirational speaker Dan’s Audra don’t
let anyone steal your dreams it’s your
dream not theirs
once I read that I became recommitted to
my goal and would not stop working in
small groups to whatever dream I had
reading that pole I realized another
door was left for me to open the
difference between this story and the
last one that this door was cracked open
already for me so all I needed was a
little push on a doorknob to open it
this crack door allowed me to be true to
myself and not listen to those who
belittle me it gave me confidence and
myself and a pass
keep going no matter what I’ll wake up
every morning at 6:00 and Jupiter ball
in my driveway and work on different
moves I knew I would need to perfect
I was the neighborhood of long vlog
middle school is another big step for me
I was at the age where many of my
friends started getting initiations and
started to get sent to juvenile centres
or expelled and sent to a school named
soften senses or the bad children went
when they kept misbehaving Carver wasn’t
your ordinary middle school there is
student versus teacher fight gang beef
and much much more
I don’t want you to feel bad for me
because this is nothing new to my eye or
anyone I grew up with this is just what
happened and we were used to it however
because a few doors had already been
open for me new doors are starting to
swing wide open and with them with the
and with them came opportunities one of
them was an option to attention AG
school what was amazing about this wide
open door was that there were a group of
people on the other side waiting for me
of wide open loving arms so one might
think this should be the easiest door to
open since it’s wide open is loving
people on either side but it wasn’t this
is the hardest for me st. Andrews was
different it was a different society
that I wasn’t used to I was afraid to
not fit in I want to be too dumb for the
other students actually hated the first
couple of months here I wanted to go
back to a public school I was lucky
enough to be admitted to sin ng school
in Boca ratone with the other members of
my travel team such as Marcus pellicer
and Ben Milstein been right there on the
bottom right Marcus top left many of my
hometown friends believe I made it
because back in the city my friends saw
my opportunity as me leaving them behind
but really I was taking all
opportunities handed to me my friends
saw Boco as the place of paradise and if
you could fit in
you’d be wealthy but really my work was
just starting with dedication and hard
work I became a top player in the county
and then became a top player in South
Florida I now considered a top player in
the state of Florida I often come back
to the gym where I start
and this surprises me to see children
who look up to me a couple months ago I
walked in the Park
I’m an old head coach coach Kevin
approached me with a grin from cheek to
cheek I saw a young children staring to
glare as if I was some superstar and her
whispers is that Jamie I think so I knew
the dream I was chasing was much bigger
than me now it was about the community
and a children who look up to me and
think if he can do it so can i I’m so
far from achieving all my bills and I
know it’ll be hard to reach but that’s
the fun part about chasing your dreams
and journey the doors that open up along
the way so you’re also my goal is what I
want everyone to start opening
opportunities are handed out so limited
and for someone to not open a door
granted for them is what is encouraged
there aren’t going to be obstacles ups
and downs potholes or whatever you want
to call it but just keep your motor on
push through because the ending is so
rewarding do you want to know why people
quit before even trying to chase their
dreams it’s the fear of failure have you
ever had a student or business students
and not study for a test because you
knew you would fail and one and you know
be crushed and surprised altogether
I wanted to avoid that all together I
have friends who will not study and
rather fail because they feared if they
gave something their all and still
failed their spirit would be ruined and
wanted to avoid that there are many
reasons why it is important to chase
your dreams but here are my top three
reasons why you should follow yours one
other people will see you following your
dreams and that can be an inspiration
for them too it is never fun working in
a job you hate and three so you can
finally be happy how can you be an
inspiration for others who say that’s
easy if someone sees you non-stop
working chasing your dreams and getting
to that goal that you have they can see
that as motivation to do the same why is
it never fun working in a job you hate
working in a job you hate makes time
goes so much slower if you’re passionate
about something you barely tend to look
up at the clock you’re just having fun
at doing what you love and chasing your
dreams will finally make you happy
imagine all that hard work pays all
and a sigh relief you can say I did it
you only live once so why not live your
only life to the fullest no
procrastination get it done now today
because tomorrow isn’t promised what I
learned over my 18 years of life is if
you love something to chase it no one
would chase it for you there would be
doubters hares or simply people who
don’t want you to succeed but that’s all
part of the process I like to relate to
my dream killers and basketball
terminology your biggest obstacle is
usually the people who want you to be
miserable like them and want to block
any shot you ever put up I call these
people in a sensor the sensor wants to
block any shot you put up and they
usually don’t care who you are
they’re trying to send your shot flying
over the basket another obstacle we
obtain are the people that tell us you
suck or you’re not good at what you’re
doing and I refer to these people as the
opponent’s annoying dad who was angry
that your team is beating his you know
those dads that’s didn’t Exeter referee
the whole game and just complain yeah
those people are the ones who say
hurtful things but don’t really mean it
they’re just angry with themselves
motivational speaker Eric Thomas once
dated pain is temporary it can last an
hour day or year Oh soon and eventually
it will get better this culminates it
everyone in so many ways maybe you’re
working out and your body is so sore but
you know you have to finish this last
read it’ll be painful but the reward is
so beneficial or maybe he just had a bad
breakup with the one you got was for you
the one you spend the rest of your life
with it hurts but the pain is temporary
there’s only one way left to go when you
hit rock bottom and that’s up you can’t
go any lower
I know it would be difficult to chase my
dreams without a father figure and a
part of me crave for someone to show me
the way but I turned that into
motivation to be a better example for my
future children I have a strong support
team with great people like mrs. not men
Sanchez fuglie and my old good friend
mrs. Reddington there’s so many people
in my corner supporting me the names are
gone forever my adventure is
far from over but every day I’m a step
closer chase your dreams because you
never know what doors will open up for
you on your journey without me chasing
my basketball dream I would not be as
sane entry school I would not have the
support you might have today I would not
have those personality and love I have
for others and I would not be giving
this talk right now I would get another
statistic but I’m not I met some of the
most influential people in the world
like mr. Pozzo – even chef Wendy and
sage dining who approached me to be my
best every day out here what’s up man
from a hundred feet away and knows mr.
Pozzo looking at footed smiles on
students faces then I’ll go into Mariani
Great Hall and have a strong
conversation with chef Wendy as he
continues to ask are you sure you want
it I can do that fun you don’t tell
nobody okay as I say well I would like
to eat I have long-term friends and I’m
an example for children in my community
and this all came from me chasing my
dreams and opening every door I
encountered I dealt with a lot of pain
in my life like when I lost my cousin
and best friend Jonathan and I know
there are good and bad ways and bad days
ahead and I believe I am blessed
throughout my lifetime and I wants to
distribute my best things to others for
the young ones listening to this right
now
don’t let anyone take you from your
passion if you believe you can do
something that’s all the credit you need
to chase it I want you all to keep
staying on a path of success and chasing
your dreams but I want you to walk
through all doors it may be easy to walk
through wide open doors and unlock doors
but sometimes you have to take the
harder route and pry those doors wide
open and for my adults it’s never too
late to chase your dreams do what you
want
open doors that are there for you to
open doors just another opportunity so
why not take it the children I grew up
with had the same if not more passion
for success but the difference I did was
take opportunities handed to me I want
you all to live the rest of your life
not being hesitate with opportunities be
confident and unfold if you didn’t get
anything from what I talked about I
would remember this chase your dreams
because you never know what doors will
open up for you journey thank you
