when I was 12 years old my grandmother
Rose had a stroke because my mother
didn’t recognize it she waited over 24
hours before calling for help
Rose never spoke or moved again I stood
there in the nursing home holding her
hand looking in her eyes and I just
didn’t understand it broke my heart Rose
died alone locked in her body my mother
became really depressed and eventually
overdosed on sleeping pills I lost the
only family I had because of a stroke
there is an 80% chance that you your
spouse children parents or siblings will
have a stroke in your lifetime 80
percent strokes kill six million people
a year
it’s the number-two leading cause of
death in the world here’s the good news
if you spot a stroke in time you can
stop a stroke most strokes are caused by
a blocked blood vessel to the brain
however there are now treatments to
remove the blockage and protect the
brain if you can remove the blockage in
time you can go home in full health
stroke treatment is really
time-sensitive here’s the bottom line
don’t wait time is everything if you can
spot a stroke in time you can stop a

how do you spot a strong slurred speech
weakness or numbness in one side of the
body loss of balance loss of vision
severe headache if you spot any of these
things and yourself or others call 9-1-1
there’s also two really simple tests to
spot a stroke first ask somebody to
smile if the smile droops call 9-1-1
second ask somebody to raise their arms
out if one of the arm drifts downward
call 9-1-1 as you can see it took less
than two minutes to learn this
life-saving information sadly most

this should be learned by everyone
regardless of age even children even
children can learn to spot if their
parents or grandparents are having a
stroke once you had a spot of stroke you
can save a life maybe your own if
