How Does Impact Happen? | Ces Rondario | TEDxMiriamCollege | Ces Rondario | TEDxMiriamCollege

[Music]
you ever met anyone ask them what it is
that they wanted to do with their lives
and they told you I’m not making it out
I want to make a difference I want to
change the world
I’ve heard them do that I have a return
of them I actually said of them many
times and even further
I took that word in fact and I just not
think that that’s gonna make a business
out of it and that’s why in 2014 along
with material founders we thought in
fact had facilities and you know this
whole entire time that we were doing
this it was always about what are we
going to try to create what are we
trying to change in fact hub as a
network has discussed earlier part of
the Larsen elevate the world and we have
over 15,000 covers globally
why am I saying that because I was
15,000 hovers they are the people who
want to make an empire there are the
people who are trying to create
solutions to change the world
so I hear in this question and I hear
this race sir not to my face almost
every day says someone we can have that
I want to be the next Facebook even
months I heard that every single day
it’s no part of my narrator it’s part of
my dialogue and so maybe this whole
frequency of hearing this thing over and
over again I want to change the world I
want to make a difference
I started
I mean what does that even mean but just
I mean to change the world
what does it mean to make an impact what
is it more firmly
how do we make it happen right and if
you ask me there are probably a lot of
inventions and you know current events
personalities that have shaped the
squirrel you know there’s the invention
of the wheel ready
penicillin everything I love to travel
always be important to me and the forest
to life for my buck right and then you
have the world wars
you have the 9/11 attacks and you have
the President Barack Obama being the
first exact American president right big
in fact crazy cool yay and then I idea
dice couples opens them and let me ask
you and to be honest here ze all of that
that those things and compared to that
you think you’re making enough
are you giving me giving back right
and so I realize maybe these moments you
know this big pressure of doing a big
thing don’t do thing we meet some very
famous limiting us and I don’t know
about you but I don’t have to think I’m
gonna be able to attract the bomb or
invent a miracle drug maybe our
wonderful doctor earlier good who knows
but I sir the don’t write then could it
be this committee dreaming of doing
something big is what’s keeping us
stable it’s you know stuck in the status
quo I remember a good friend of mine
called me not too long ago and told me
her daughter my goddaughter was going to
run for class president until they could
anything minami godmother I without you
know I went to the election day and I
brought o congratulatory back I got
balloons thank God for my balloon she
won but that’s not the story that’s not
the whole story
she won by default because people who
were talking with her decided and
realized she was always the best until
they just didn’t want to regular so they
quit and then we still you know their
double you’re awesome you’re your
special go for it but then I started
thinking pink right
what is this pressure in this bowl to
win it to do
to the big what if it’s the very thing
that’s causing us to stop on to quit and
so maybe the narrative has to change
guys maybe maybe we need to take this
motherhood statement of making an impact
doing a big thing break it down so the
common folks that came at 9 you know the
ones that ran behind a little bit you
know behind him on over all those three
people so that we can start seeing the
everyday things that we do I think I’m
gonna straight so
but whenever I’m asked that’s okay so
the question is sure that’s me how do we
need the things that we do every day to
be great
how can we do that cess and one of the
stories that I’ve always loved sharing
is the line of acres of diamonds has
anyone heard of it no it does
popularized by simple actually in the
late 20th century by Russell Mambo and
it’s been building over 6,000 times in
speeches around the world and the story
is very simple it’s a story about a man
and I’ll defend and he was a wealthy man
from South Central India and he was
contending to this life you know he had
a big farm he was living the life
another man a Buddhist priest now this
Buddhist priests told him about the
existence of diamonds how it is going to
exponentiate which he had already read
and so flustered and you know completely
obsessed with this idea of how they
learn what did you do he sold everything
he had and then he went off to search
for this magical listening rocks okay he
traveled my mind only to not know where
to find it he didn’t know how to find it
first well we just went right after he
lost everything that he had sold of the
money that he had he ended up killing
himself that this was just so desolate
and so he died that was it for him he
was in search of something thinning he’s
trying to get that thing meanwhile back
at the farm the new owner what’s going
on in the back and his family from
abroad and Louis come
drinking he saw something that was
glistening in the water it was a funny
colored stone not knowing what it was he
took it up brought his mom didn’t know
what to do it
so she put it in them in this practice
Mendel thanks later the same Buddhist
priest came back to poverty
okay and when he met any men didn’t want
her and right in the priest end and when
the pre the Buddhist priest saw the rock
on the mantelpiece just what she said
that’s it diamond Danella and that one
fence is the origin of the product
Golconda which is the most magnificent
diamond mine in the world okay it said
that the Hope Diamond was founder okay
it’s one of my shares and share this
because I along with my life gone Reese
story more time tonight but like admit
but I’ve extracted three things that I
want to share with you which will go
back to this whole idea how do we get
everyday things and try to make it them
try to see them escaped and we’ll always
start it with your life
Alif and who had ordered it was Buffy
and let me kind of learn recommend John
that can you imagine those his property
he sold that that was his back in those
days who don’t become we don’t get that
property just because this was back in
the 16th century okay
and so he became obsessed with the idea
of a greater wealth never run if it was
me
his family he was first dating
everything that he built he was going to
get it right this designer having more
we have to get that kid already have the
quest for more and like everything the
intention the purpose and out of the lie
is what really will dictate the impact
of it in the end let’s go back to one of
my examples take internet for example
right it’s the best mention in my idea
well maybe the things that are holding
this together will disagree with that
but I mean the internet is great right
but it’s also meetings for cyberbullying
for boy Edison and recently Charlie
Wright in the same way charismatic
leaders personalities like dr. Martin
Luther King and Adolf Hitler had won
many moments they commanded big
audiences they were able to inspire
movements right the only difference is
that one inspired an entire generation
there any sort of social injustice well
the other one decided that he get in the
rhythm of one race until the you know
the different that both gentlemen had
everything going for them but what
separated that is the cause behind why
they were doing what they were doing so
many before we start turning and looking
for the dynamics that we want to find
maybe he starts with that maybe you
started what what is your life and so
interpreting for this message I research
more about the story that I’ve always
loved and then how not that it’s upon
that kind of vision and I it was
described
the Buddhist priests talk to the Alma
fed and given the structure so when
elevates everything with my sanity’s you
know loosening things he said and I
quote find a river that runs through
white stands between high mountains in
those white sands you will find a
diamonds I’m going to be back find a
river that once thorough white stands
between high mountains and in the white
sands you will find anemones and he went
now I don’t know about you but that
sounds great stick it to me sorry okay
how would you do that
why it’s one thing to believe and
completely unsubstantiated information
it’s another to sell everything you have
everything you’ve built leaving everyone
you know based on that and that’s why my
second point is passion is not
everything guys and if you knew me
beyond the stage you would think that
that is the most unstressed thing you
will ever fear for me because I don’t
especially I do say every day maybe you
know I even know that I I ramble too
much when I want to say something like
much right now and but I think I’ve seen
too much and I can only say that yes it
is still a core essential tool to what
makes us do the great things that we do
but it’s not anything do not be anything
how many well-intentioned
entrepreneurs have a met only to end up
with the story much like other things so
it’s really I mean even almost well you
would think that you could hire someone
to help them on that journey right you
would think that he would have stayed
and probed ah where do you find the best
way you would think that right but
unfortunately he didn’t why would you go
on enough plus they don’t even a planner
god forbid it back and unfortunately
today this kind of uninformed excites
bility is still relevant it’s still
prevalent today everybody still goes out
in the search of something oh I’m just
going to do that and they’ll figure it
out I’m a big believer in reckless
abandon but sometimes you can have the
pink right and so that’s why along the
purpose and passion I believe one must
practice not only because it takes years
to build up a skill that you need to
have to be great but because guys you
have to mean anything in new work it’s
not just you know everything else to
function you have to exercise your mind
your body your soul
it cannot be all heart you need heart
but it cannot feel that okay I once read
a story that a lot of people will always
go back to the heart the why because
it’s what fuels our enabling that but I
think sometimes people mistake heart for
just having some mistake
and along with purpose and hashtag and
practice I think one should be patient
did you know that very few maybe 40% of
child prodigies in the world end up
successful 40% and these are the known
people who can do anything right so if
it was all about passion and skill but
why are this geniuses not world-class
wise Donald Trump seriously that’s fun
right because I really look further and
you realize that it’s because most
people don’t stay don’t stick to what
they do long enough to see the fruits of
it they just quit and not working my and
I once read that there was a man who was
in love with soda I was stupid
so soda he was in love with it when he
pulled up in the barrage and he tried to
sell it hold it one up dammit nobody
bought it said okay let’s go to up still
nothing
and it’s three uh he got all the way to
sticks out I’m telling you three times
and said this is never gonna work
I’m never gonna finish I’m never gonna
be returned everything whatever so said
goodbye
after hear so many picked up the idea
bought it from him cause seven up and we
all know what happens enemy who knows
right the alphabet stayed on the course
right and channel that insatiable desire
to find that diamond and those diamonds
if they don’t bomb back home and you
could have found them right and so
that’s my third point may be out there
they came in I didn’t have to kind of
start it at the Kingman head we coming
to the end of this story it was a
bittersweet discovery of his mind right
on one spectrum a diamonds
it was revelation right but we see two
characters here and is buried it on 100
never mind of a man who didn’t know that
the very thing that he was looking for
in the world over to strengthen need to
speak and then you do the other guy go
or the open of the new owner who we
touched it who had it but didn’t know
what to do with it and even though the
value of the thing until the Buddhist
priests told him what it was
let me give you imagine if that Buddhist
priests didn’t come back and it just
stayed there on the mantelpiece can you
imagine a party when that’s been
productive then back to the world
and so that’s my question now and the
same way could it be that we also have
you know sent out his request for the
baby but the great but then I really
forgot it to look like in all these
things I mean by now I can give you a
status of it picked this but the founder
day their entrepreneurship is maybe nine
out of ten they’re right and then the
quest of them wanting to be big into
even exit Elon Musk and to be the best
whatever I will always be an advocate
for people who say they want to do
things they want to be great but then I
question them and I always asked what do
you have in your hands what do you have
to gain
I think so no no I still have to get
funding I have to do this I have to do
that no matter what do you have today
don’t talk to me about what you want to
get to but this that’s argue with you
will prepare for no but do you have
today okay and so maybe maybe we need
encounters with someone like that
Buddhist priest to remind us that the
journey but really truly holds the most
well it’s the journey that we take to
ourselves
and so maybe the emotion isn’t how to
make it happen right maybe that’s not
the thing that needs to be asked today
it’s I think we all have a very relative
understanding of what that means and
that’s good because hu muscle is trying
to explore that each one of us hopefully
will try to practice what we have
channeled up to the effect that we want
to give to the world
so maybe the better question now is what
are you going to do today we’ve kind of
been off four speakers apart for myself
including myself and you all talked
about how we want to do things because
it’s what resonates with us
how does in fact happen and talks
happens when you start with yourself and
then hopefully
