Gravity: The Reinvention of Classical Music | Gareth Walsh | TEDxUCLA

ladies and gentlemen what you’re about
to see is live please warning there will
why does classical music sound so
classical how do we make classical music
performances that are relevant to
today’s modern world these are the
questions that me and my wife asked each
other a couple of months ago when we
started this project I’m a media artist
I do a lot of contemporary art with
technology as you just experienced and
my wife is a classical pianist so we
decided we would join forces and bring
like all big ideas this one had a lot of
gravity and it very quickly attracted
people that I know and people that I
respect and I ended up working with a
group of friends and artists so we all
worked late into the night sometimes
over night and at weekends and we really
wanted to answer one question and that
was if the great and legendary artists
of the past were alive today how would
they take the gravity of all of the work
that’s been done all of the incredible
art and music and how would they
reinvent that and make something new and
that’s what we try to do here this morning thank you and enjoy TEDx
