go on
beautiful I always I always wanted to
start a show a concert like this and
finally I got to do that so you’re
probably wondering why did we have to do
that
why why is he doing this okay um I was
trying to get you to engage in rhythm
find the harmony together and we did I
came up I came upon me
you listened these ladies over here will
looking like me when you weird but I am
a bit but as we went on you listened you
start humming – then you listened even
closer you had the right notes you had a
right rhythm and there it is we found
each other in harmony very nice
so rhythm and harmony what’s rhythm most
of us think of rhythm in terms of music
yet it’s a little more than that in our
daily lives we experience rhythm wake up
brush your teeth take the shower you do
take it’s alright
just yeah take a shower have breakfast
and then carry on with whatever you have
to do that day obviously if you have
little children you have a different
pattern to follow right so as a
percussionist I seek for rhythm in
anything it can be the faxing machine
actually made a song with the sound of a
faxing machine or whatever let’s say the
way we walk especially the way we talk
especially here in Curacao right because
I can I can hear someone thinking oh I
like SATA bontyre i well seize those
kind of things I mean those are very
rhythmical things in our daily lives but
it goes even beyond much further much
further
I see rhythm in companies I see rhythm
in systems in organizations I’m talking
about people doing a certain task then
followed up by people doing other tasks
and I see it as a link the one link
isn’t I mean there are very strong links
the one link is as strong as the
previous one and as strong as the one
coming after ok
so basically what I’m saying is within
an organization whatever we do has
consequences for the next person doing
his job and has consequences for the
company as a whole or for the
organization as a whole it needs to be
in rhythm right so as an artist I get to
travel do team building workshops
performer bands occasionally I get to
perform with an orchestra ok
performing with an orchestra it’s a
different thing ok I really love to make
that comparison between an organization
and an orchestra in an orchestra you
have the string section you have the
horn section you have the procore
in Section horn section consisting of
trumpet players French horn players
trombone players strange section
consisting of violin first violin second
violin violas percussion system
percussion section consisting of the
drums the congas anything it’s all
rhythm right there okay
so right now to prove my point I would
ask you I would want to ask you to stand
up they’re handing out the boom whackers
take them gracefully but stand up stand
up please and as you do that I would
like to ask you please give a big round
of applause to my colleague percussion
players for joining me on stage so I
assume everyone knows the difference
between right and left okay everyone
also knows the difference or everyone
can count from 1 till 4 right ok so
let’s move to the left
that being the 1 and then the 2 and the
3 and the 4 so one two and three four
one two and three and now for just one
two and three and four and one two and
[Music]
okay okay so just gimme again green I
read one – let’s start with red green
and if you have a lower voice please
give it to me
[Music]
used to come from underneath somewhere
down there go on keep up Blake get ready
no yellow and orange the task is going
beautiful now tell me something does
this so people let me tell you something
before I leave I’m gonna leave this with
you okay
so just let’s make a deal
whatever we do as of today just make
sure whatever we do as of today
don’t just play your instrument make
sure you engage make sure you’re part of
that Orchestra okay make sure to engage
find the rhythm together alright thank
you so much
