Everyday Habits affect our Health and the Environment | Tamta Mamatelashvili | TEDxIBEuropeanSchool

this vegan is a trend first of all let’s
define this term so that everyone knows
the definition beginners is a lifestyle
in which a person tries to avoid all
kinds of exploitation and cruelty to
animals for food clothing or any other
purpose not a big proportion of human
populations in high income and middle
income country are vegan so a person
might think that like a weakened person
might think there are different and
special plus mostly younger populations
are weakened and like the number of
vegans are you quizzing very rapidly
right now so it seems like it’s a trend
but in reality
vegans are considered to be weird rather
than cool so why would anyone be vegan
right what okay so oh 2.6 million years
ago meat became a significant part of
free human diet eating plants was easy
you didn’t have to chase plants but
hunting for the humans with work
clothing and new source of food meat
which is calorie dense if it contains a
lot of essential amino acids and several
vitamins this dietary changed let the
increase a human brain size which means
it helped us evolve so if you need help
us ego and it’s delicious and for
example means the leather shoes the last
four years that why would anyone try to
avoid them if they cannot hurt it there
are three reasons for this environmental
ethical and health bridges first let’s
talk about ethics which is a big thing
is the easiest part to understand for
humans because humans are sensitive and
they feel bad for the animals if you see
someone killing a pig in the middle of
the street
we just dub them yes because you feel
bad for the people but if it’s happening
behind the closed doors
nobody seems to care like for about like
remove more more than three years ago I
was trying to decide
if there were like ethical ways to
exploit any monster which was correct to
eat sweet or wear leather belts or
something but I could come to a final
decision decision until one day I
ordered the burger at Wendy’s like next
to my table before the window I could
see the kitchen and I think they forgot
to pull down their trips because it
wasn’t very appetizing I could see why
cows thank you from the ceiling and
bachelor was splicing them
it was disgusting and when I looked at
my burger I knew that I was responsible
for another animal’s life and I couldn’t
live with myself
No so I decided to never to me ever
yeah like I’m not a lot of people
experienced this race so I think a look
is worth a thousand words this is why I
recommend you to watch a movie called
Earthlings in which you can see the
actual footages of how animals treated
in some factories they are locked up in
small spaces and they’ll fall into
depression and there are many other
things that happen to them which are I
don’t know favorites that I think this
movie is even sadder when we’re wanting
to see where that simmers fathered at
work like you will cry definitely the
second reason is the environment by 2050
they’ll be two billion like about to do
in more people on earth so we should
find ways of the more sustainable
lifestyles so what is the most
sustainable lifestyle if Sydney get away
from animal-based foods would adapt
adapt to 49 percent to go home food
supply without expanding crop lands this
is because a big proportion of crops
that are grown are fed to the livestock
and if this food is not effect to the
livestock it could be
to people and it could resolve world
hunger anymore husbandry creates more
current emissions than all
transportations come back and I think
this is very important because when
people think about the environment they
think about like transportation as the
biggest void problem three-quarters of
rules Fisher’s are overexploited for one
still gram of fish that are caught five
kilograms of unattended marine species
are discarded as pike you like phantoms
died for nothing no reason like from
motors perspective it would be most
sustainable to and who eat plant-based
foods like on this table you can see how
much water is needed to produce one
kilogram of certain potions to produce
one kilogram of beef you need fifteen
thousand and four hundred litres of
water but to produce one kilogram of
potatoes you just need two hundred and
eighty seven kilograms that’s like fifty
three times less and yeah one so you
might be thinking okay okay I want to
live a sustainable lifestyle and I feel
bad for the animals but whatever their
health did it means help us evolve it
helped us evolve 2.6 million years ago
when the only other choice was to eat
nuts berries or tubers imagine eating a
raw potato not very literate but today
you can make you like plans to like
links to plant domestication you can eat
variety of fruits and vegetables and
grains and make delicious fruits which
are very special evening so what is
healthy really it is really hard to
determine nowadays since everyone is
saved different things in fluid in
article or what how healthy meat is or
dairy you should check this master
because meat and dairy industry start
try to sponsor medical researches that
show that it is missing
I’m actually isn’t humans ok humans have
long intestines which is perfect for
digesting cleansers but we’re not
predators because digested easily like
if you view it in like a large amount
means like you might feel bad after
right yeah okay because it’s hard for us
to digest and people often try to avoid
plant-based diet because they think it
is I can’t help you or they’ll be weak
or they get protein deficient even the
healthiest meat that was grass-fed and
for example with animals were in
luxurious farms or cat reflux it still
causes some applications to our health
people actually like this foods increase
the chances of getting from several
chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes
and heart disease because it’s high
cholesterol and fat and low in
antioxidants so people with these
chronic diseases sure themselves only
just by switching their diet to Whole
Foods plant-based diet and I think that
says a lot because yeah
so yeah about 13 deficiency like people
think that I’m not able to say it’s like
plants have protein also not only need
and you can get a lot of protein from
plant foods and you don’t need meat to
get the solution another project and
also theory is considered to be a health
food because it has calcium so why don’t
we get bone structure if we didn’t get
enough calcium
the reality is calcium magnesium iron
copper all those minerals are in the
soil and plants approve them through
roofs and then these animals eat those
plants and that’s why their byproducts
have between us but wouldn’t it be
easier to directly plants rather than
feeding it to others and then process so
yeah here you can see like a small
proportion of Wichitas that contain
calcium and iron so there are many
sources like the fish
so or whatever you’re trying to get to
is that we should make small changes or
in our everyday lives which could lead
to big differences for example this belt
is not leather but it can hold my pants
right and shoes can warm you if they are
not real leather and like food can
saturate you if it’s not means like you
can just everyday like for example if
you’re trying to I know it’s a burger
just eat a veggie burger it’s exactly
not nothing feels the same but it tastes
really good and it’s better for the
environment for your health and for the
animals because animals didn’t die and I
think we should care about other image [Applause]
