Every Choice You Make, Makes You | Parambrata Chattopadhyay | TEDxJadavpurUniversity

this doesn’t make me it’s very very very

analogous to be honest I am professors

as nice and very Provost I have except

that I am gonna start something not so

nice I do believe they you are honestly

it’s kind of bordering on being is not

any less fashionable the school of

cynics bigoted people who not I on a

dressing it up in the table when you

found twisted isms people are different

races please others religious and

otherwise one might ask of us life I

think my speech my talk with such are

not so nice topic uncertain organized

not we lose all faith and become free we

don’t give received in a in negativity

Lancer is no reduction but you sure need

to know the ground reality that are

invalid only then do you think of your

way of always way of counting this each

week a way of reaching barriers which

given the current climate is much needed

in all the earth

and walks of life society and that is

precisely what students had job

University to they push the boundaries

they preach the very and that is why

it’s so much fun to be here every time

every single time I can align myself

with the way most people in here

people as they do here should argue

debate discuss openly something that’s

becoming a rarity increasingly in the

best was before the default it doesn’t

really bother me anymore

do not repeat on which area I was a

little faster indeed because I’m so

festive to speak from personal

experiences I had to turn to my own life

and I realized I’ve done and actually

don’t a number of things to heart in my

life of purpose and some of them

actually let me pick loved the way they

come I have been quite rebellious and

it’s one way I have back so I push

I’m most afraid I’ll find out that I

want to be humble I’m gonna talk about a

few of those thing for that time

see the thing about phrases like

breaking barriers putting two types

pushing the envelope stopping period no

no no is the other while ago when I

walked in so the dynamics of the line

that they finally imported how much

power for a struggle as if I were a man

so will I you know during my in my

travel period in my doing my struggling

days I did this and that I wrote about

everything but the thing is when you are

actually up against something we’re not

actually up again tasks you send them

realize it you’re just doing it in peace

of course there are no sleepless nights

okay to the bouts of depression son

anger when you hit major

roadblocks on the way to achieving after

achieving I would say on the way to on

the way to your destination I would say

but then that’s gonna be there all your

life that’s another thing about the real

world at all your trials never end

because at different stages in your life

you’re dealing with different duties

personal and professional aspirations

and at different levels now I started

acting very young when I was 18 when I

had no clue what I wanted to do I was

studying and I was fairly good at it and

kept doing that alongside acting for the

first few years I actually wants to do a

film makeup but my entry to this world

have post-college roots right I kept on

working as an actor my father passed

away two kalyana now I needed money and

realized that it did and I pushed back

my plans over to the penis treatment

accorded I kept working in between well

a fairly big young Bengali television

star huh

I’m surprising everyone in 2006 I

pretended like in your few good films

started happening at that time the bomb

collection release fountain I released

along with a few other films and got the

faxes deserve all the pain I was

thinking of becoming a name to reckon

with in the zone of voltage that is

Bengali cinema but guess what I even

surprised myself with this one I applied

for a scholarship for a master’s degree

in the UK look at both the scholarship

and the university and I left her

English to conceive a one and a half

year master’s course in filmmaking

leaving everyone girl friends pure

goodness everyone why did my mother by

my mom absolutely stunned so everyone

thought I was top rating Matt will be

leading a career on the up straight for

this and for a master’s degree but you

know what I guess I needed to breathe

easier to be a little more confident and

complete needed to see a little more of

the world that’s the reason why I ended

that was important at that point in time

again steps can be done as breeding

ponds barrier on some level but that

sabbatical indeed was life-changing it

rains more than one and I returned

planning to make more things make more

things and act less actually

but creating these has something stored

for you once I returned all the big fish

so-called victims of mine for which most

people knew me Judy Kanani and vices

travel and M locket how about those

everything started happening after that

once I returned and I cannot mess with

the flow

again but I also had to make my own

movies so I did start making films as

well it’s meat seven years since I

returned from England and I’ve been

balancing acting and making films and

now also producing trying to produce

some exciting content for the internet

and hopefully for the biggest screen as

well in the future and this brings me to

the biggest challenge the biggest

barrier that I’ve had to deal with so

far you know the film industry in our

country especially the regional ones the

smaller ones like ours with a college of

industry next you can will be insulated

you know it’s kind of almost incestuous

in some way it tries to categorize you

it kind of you know it depends a lot

everything there’s a lot of mutual

affiliation at the same time alright so

what I’m trying to say is this industry

tries to categorize you to figure you

out to graphic you have some bracket to

label you not being able to do so who

makes people it has to be very very very

uncomfortable and I think you relabeled

or bracketed and I say as an

intellectual you know I really wish I

was I was the end percent of the

intellectually made me know and I really

wished I was intellectual at least 10%

of what I wanted to be biggest maybe put

them at the damn gate return nothing

news to show people in like you know the

lower podium but not lower higher but at

least like making and others but for me

I think the use of this term for me it

makes me feel like that it’s an insult

to the true intellectual in the world

so you know my opportunity the steps

I’ve taken in my life so far

my multitasking my addition ships

starting with added movement in

everything is mangled up when I was all

of my tea my hand points and man

domestic without a two letters to

the odd characters like the recent

closet transgender instrumental of our

creativity Luda and making it inhabits

today’s world the two sons of the town

at least an attempt all of this I’m

pretty sure has contributed towards this

level dispatch and let me tell you an

otherwise perfectly happy with it as

long as I see the Precision’s of my

audience and rich and I’m really

fortunate about this I do my clientele

might not be as biggest the 4.0 watches

but the plankton that is there for the

type of film that I do there are very

very loyal lot I really believe in that

and I’m really really put them I think

of myself as a true group in going and

if there are any good qualities in me

most of them I owe to my identity as a

Bengali but I must also admit that a

large section of Bengali still find

themselves rather uncomfortable with the

idea of being hyper active practice

being enterprising seeing a multitasker

and the one precision when I get to hear

the most these days about me is why does

he need to do some anything why can’t we

concentrate on one white are the movers

our team one thing at a time I think

this also comes from not being able to

figure it individual out I feel and my

question is I can do all of it with a

certain amount of quality in all that on

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

so what’s your go don’t get me wrong I’m

very fond of my my fine touch to quote

my colleague find us to people but again

I’ll reiterate that you need to be aware

of the realities who are living this you

are dealing with and the barriers that

you are trying to breathe

we just appearing after I or someone

like me and it just be like the one that

I work in I have to deal with

hence this topic and these points it’s

the training

now the question remains why do I have

to do so anything how do I say this it’s

the creative or something more something

else that keeps private you could

probably pick up that way actually and

I’m not necessarily talking of money or

pain here although I will mind any of

that like a lot more money the more pain

would have thought that but what is more

important is another way to express

another way to contribute if I may say

so another means of exploring this

abstract matrix matrix like domain that

connects the heart the mind the society

the people that we often call art very

simple journey so far has been quite

crazy with this do share of success and

failure but it’s also good it’s really

great and good when you know standing at

36 I feel all you become eventually

starts with what you grew up with and

I’ve been extremely fortunate with that

my father was thought about done young

man

high humble happy with little a

fantastic musician who never thought of

making money of them with art but became

a journalist or his life and shame on a

deep believer in God but his own version

of God nothing institutional

a God that he inherited

from the winner my mother has no filter

bleach a family of writers as well

authors social activists with very very

strong socialist leanings together that

they gave me and in business and

environment which resonated with the

finest of international and Bengali

thoughts and ideas and most importantly

an open liberal environment climate both

of them they came from very very humble

backgrounds and also led a very simple

sometimes even difficult life but there

was no dearth of literature cinema and

music never I was never told to become

anything they were the ones who grew

very dispersed by getting married

without any support or it’s from their

respective parents or the families they

did it and they almost really penniless

tea absolutely they got to decide to get

married and they did and the be

happening without any support from

anybody with the unlimited means they

lived a very very happy life heredity

today I would think they also broke

barriers by realizing that their son

needed to eat nutritious food and hence

any taboos against any kind of me shall

not be allowed yes you got that right

not even I can see I’m sorry if I’m not

entering try to tend to people with

apologies for them but yes that’s the

environment that’s the Kolkata that the

India I grew up it’s from them that I

thought perspectives of the world and

the country that we live in the India

that was one ambition and another threat

now if I broken any barriers in my life

because I adapted from any as I said

between increases yearning to pass

I wish sometimes everyone for being dead

on this journey and for being here today

for tolerating this rather personally

for hearing it out for getting me out

and I haven’t been here to be mad men

fighting over here today it’s truly an

honor

I wish you all the very best with

everything that we want through lady

whisper in your life and I wish that you

wish me luck – but everything that I

wish to do in my path that lies ahead

thank you [Applause]
