to be here is impressive there is no
most rewarding feeling and
exciting to say I did this or
we did this it generated us a
feeling of empowerment so great
that almost immediately we put on
to think will be that I can do something more
something bigger flew more chiva will be that
I can do something for someone else in the
as we become more aware
of our environment either by influence
of family friends or simply by
we ourselves think about what
do because we are doing things
for who we are doing and how
we should do them if it’s true
I’m sure there’s no formula
magic to do things on the day of
today I want to share how
of an open and inclusive technology
we can generate impact projects
Social
your architect by profession but you
I promise that one of the most feelings
great that I have is that as citizens
we are more than a profession and for this reason
was that a few years ago I decided
close my architecture studio and I
out of the country
I wanted to explore new new spaces
realities but most importantly new
way of doing things how to do
things in a different way and in this
path with the fab labs threads for
those who do not know what a fablab is
I tell you in a very simple way they are
digital manufacturing laboratories
open for anyone but
particularity is that they possess
tools as simple as a
hammer up as advanced as a
3d printer however the coolest thing about
the spaces is that any of
we as citizens have an access
free to them to be able to
materialize your ideas carry out your
ideas
this experience made me change
totally my role as a professional I gave myself
mind that with my energy my
knowledge and the fab labs could
positively impact our society
and there are two international projects that
they made me change the chip a bit
first it was a solar house developed
in Barcelona where the whole house is
developed in a tablao that made me
think the multi scalar and that of these
projects how to generate any
thing and another project that called me the
attention was developed by a
Peruvian architect who used the
digital manufacturing to create a loom
low cost and optimized by 60%
the production of textiles these two
projects are sample of how the fab
labs today are becoming
spaces to do to create but
mainly to generate projects of
real and tangible social innovation and
one of the most interesting things is that
nowadays they form an international network
from more than 1000 laboratories in more than
100 countries
after this experience I had
out and went back to costa rica about
three years ago and I was presented with two
impressive opportunities the first
confuses the fab association the coast
rich with the aim of promoting
culture of the fab labs within coast
rich and within the region
Central American and parallel to this
process gave me the possibility of
lead what we now know as the fap
the peri test with the association we have
achieved that the country already has four
digital manufacturing laboratory part
of this global network and this year they are going to
add even more
with the fable peritas and with a series of
local allies people who are
working here in costa rica
We were able to contribute to the concept of
circular economy for those who are
they ask how we did this we did it
in the following way working for
middle of projects programs and
mainly developed products
by the people where they were given
account that they could empower themselves and
become prosumers and that is a
presumed is that person who can
produce and consume what really
they need and not what a
world market good all this the
I get excited much fabulous really me
It thrills me a lot but I started thinking that
these spaces are open for all
but in costa rica they are open like this
that for the people who live in the great
metropolitan area then I started to
develop the concept by analyzing
obviously referring to mobility
as a fabla could be mobile something
tiny as a piece of furniture or something big
as a laboratory that was a
truck then we made the first plan
pilot a project developed with the
Ministry of Economy of the country
and with the search chamber of commerce and
we went to salchi and we developed
the first digital crafts workshop in
that corner we were working with
people who work in leather the
wood people who managed through
of digital manufacturing optimize their
products that was most impressive
of this project that after this
workshop the inah believed in the concept of
the fab labs and nowadays they have the
first fablab of that dedicated area
exclusively to digital crafts a
different concept in costa rica other
project that makes me proud calls me the
attention was the one we developed with the
foundation faes in the carpio where
we did a workshop of approximately one
week with 30 Chinese forgiveness with 12
guys from the calculated that they became
in tutors and themselves what
they did was teach other guys from
the community as instead of having and
order a toy and buy it like them
themselves with their limitations but with their
creativity could develop their
own toys
the impact of this project was so
great allowed us today three
institutions come together to generate
a campaign that will allow us to do
the first fablab inside the carp and
the first favor within an urban area
marginal of all Latin America and I’m going
to teach this an excerpt from this

the answer with all the tools
several
and of the people and thus achieve the dream
of having a paper in jail
where all people are desires of
learn and undertake what this achieves
to collaborate
Strawberry teaching would like to collaborate
courses
what was the impact of this project
that today more than 50 thousand people
because the campaign is still
will have been working together so
collaborative for the same goal but
after hearing good then as it
the issue of mobility seems to be
level to the projects but needed
formalize it if we want this to be
much more impressive we have to
really unite more institutions and what
what we did was develop a project
in conjunction with the university veritas and
I came back doing what we know today as
a public-private what
interesting was that these companies
they bet inside their models of
business to work on a project of
social innovation what was the result
what we know today as the mobile plan
which is the first of costa rica and the
first of Central America something that
good what is the concept the mobile fabla
obviously go to any part of the coast
rich and democratize the technology of
things that strike me the most is
that this project we managed to expose
a year ago here when it was just one
initiative I can see it material
after this the interesting thing is that not
we know the impact the things we do
and in many of the cases we do not know how
this transcends borders and this was what
what happened to me at the end of the year
Last I received an email from Qatar I
I thought it was spam but it was not spam and
so I opened it and they were inviting me
after having seen all the
social innovation projects to lead
a project in qatar clear the news
he grabbed well off base and first thing
what I did was call my girlfriend and tell her
what do you think if we get married in a couple
of weeks if we are going to live in Qatar
you can imagine what the
answer then we went there
who today my husband and we
they received with two things the first one a
I did not know what it meant
now and the second thing they said good
in a month you have to have the fap of
qatar list and good we take palante and what
we did today
we just developed the fablab of
Qatar which is called the Fablab Kiwi
inside an incubator and we’re already
developing a series of projects a
series of alliances for what they are
jobs with entrepreneurs
Qatar has a super situation
interesting in the Middle East we are already
developing a series of projects
there then the impact the things that
we do really transcend borders
remember that I was telling you that there is no
way to do things but everything
what I showed them I did not imagine that
was going to happen a year ago that was
simply ideas and a lot of desire to
contribute but today I realized that
they really generated a very
positive in me and in a lot of
people more but what I can do to them
guarantee is that I realized that by
means of collaborative spaces
multidisciplinary and with access to
technology and innovation really
we can become more citizens
residents and more self-sufficient in
the challenges and needs of our
country so thanks for being here
