Criticism Enhances Personality. | Anuja Kapur | TEDxNMIMSBangalore

today I would be discussing rather

talking on this issue called as critics

can it enhance personality can it be a

part of you can it define you can it

make you can it break you can it give it

to you what you want can it shows you

the path of success is it negative or

positive is it just a myth or is it a

reality for me critics has always been

apart for a woman to be in man’s world I

faced a lot of critics married for 22

years and coming up with the all

credentials criminology psychology

victimology being on a really special

police officer social activist NGO

criminal lawyer was not a easy journey

for me a mother of two Indian society

I always wanted to be looked into as a

person who could be in the home at one

corner because I’m a woman seriously I

would already talking about a gender

here

no critics enhances you

I accepted critics from the time when I

knew that they are going to be looking

up at me rather they will be looking

down at me they wanted to tell me you

can never ever stand equal in the man’s

critics whenever it knocks your door you

know what it’s bringing up it is

negative that’s what people say

it’s very negative you go outside you’ll

see a lot of people will bring it up to

you and say this is the way you dress is

this is the way you work is this is what

you do that’s all critics food critics

film critics about me about you

whenever I always to do something good

in my life my best friend used to stand

up critics you can do you will never do

so what I thought I have been the

psychologist I said that’s not possible

critics can’t break me if I have to be

successful in life if I have to be what

I want to be I have to accept critics

it’s just the same we’ll help you just

saying that help yourself by understand

critics take it in the way it is it was

very difficult

very difficult I was diagnosed with the

pituitary adenomas in 2007 it’s called

as brain tumor a brain tumor of

pituitary gland imagine a mother of two

not been asked for how you do how you do

things

marry whole family but critics never

left me coming into that life of being a

victim of your own self I had to take

myself help in every way I can and was

understanding that what to do with my

life now where I have a pituitary

adenomas where I’m standing I have a

hormonal disbalance

I have to take 16 medicines every day to

sit and stand people don’t understand

that they understand critics they didn’t

want it to see beyond me because they

want to see a flaw in me they wanted to

see how can I break a new job how can we

break her personality so that she does

not stand my disease never left me

handicapped it was a beautiful moment of

my life

it still is it’s a bomb ticking inside

me maybe one day just everybody goes but

maybe for me it’s written what I did I

said I’ll do what I do best

ignore and I did and I took critics I

accepted it I said you want to break me

break critics because this is where I

belong I want you to see myself

flying high rediscovering myself but

Curtis was not allowing me to do that

my family my in-laws everybody wherever

I was going I was understanding that

some way down the lane something is not

right and that’s when I said I have to

at Bukit I have to become a devil’s

advocate so to stand myself I made it my

best friend I started studying I didn’t

want it to get into depression I didn’t

want it to lie down I didn’t want it to

be a wick tum’ I wanted to be a survivor

and who big made me a survivor

the critics because critics gave me a

motive to live on it gave me a motive to

understand me to make me what I am today

to fight back to give you what everybody

said she can’t do it she can never do it

I never wanted to cry on myself even

once and I never did because I don’t

want to prove the other people around

who were there standing and laughing at

me I said no there’s not going to be

done I’m not only a mum I’m not only a

wife I’m not only a daughter I’m just

beyond that and how will I tell you that

I’m beyond that by working on my

weaknesses by working on critics I stood

I fought I’m standing here in front of

you today as a successful woman but that

success every night every morning goes

to drain because there is one way or the

other it’s the people who will stop me

and say you can’t make it and every time

I look up at them and I say watch me

so critics if you love your critics you

make it a power whenever somebody was

saying something to me I started writing

it down because I knew that critics is a

weakness they are seeing in me and how

can I come back to you I started writing

it down and I started making critics my

power I’m making my weakness my power to

come in front of you all to make you

understand that you all are a Wiggum to

critics because this is what you do the

best look into yourself if somebody has

said something to you don’t get

depressed don’t fight it

tell the other person don’t become

defensive or offensive write it down

that person who has given your critic is

your best friend don’t let him/her go

away because they are the one was going

to be standing in front of you for your

success so what I am today I thank

everybody in my life to bring me the

critics I might go out and I hear a lot

many things just moving behind me you

know how to depressive it becomes

sometimes you are doing such good thing

with such good heart

but it is never enough for anybody why

because they are not born with that they

don’t understand that they’re made taken

this weakness of them into a power and

they can understand those person what

they have lacked behind so it is not

that they are pulling me down they’re

degrading themselves so standing here

maybe as a role model I’m trying to put

to the audience critics is

not that disease it is a power accepted

make it the best friend of yours who

could make you successful in life

critics enhances personality thank you [Applause]
