Connecting Dance to Human Relationships | Sandip Soparrkar | TEDxSIBMBengaluru

good afternoon everyone well I have
always believed dance is of course me no
expression but the most important part
is a dance very beautifully it fits into
a regular human relationship I’m sure
you must be wondering how that’s
possible how dancing like salsa paso
doble cha-cha-cha jive all these dances
that we hear nowadays or we have been
seeing nowadays how can they be a part
of red and regular human relationship so
let me begin with different styles of
couple dances which are very very
popular all over the world I already
listened to them let me see there are
small presentations that I have here the
famous couple dances that we have are in
the under ballroom dancing which is a
very classical part of international
dance forms and we have the club dances
which are also very popular in the clubs
you must be seeing different styles of
dance which are being which way which
happen and I will take you through all
of them I will dance a few of them for
you and then you tell me how they fit
into a regular human relationship so let
me begin with them the ballroom dances
there are 10 types of ballroom dances so
when you see a man woman dance together
does not mean they’re in the salsa okay
there is lot more than just salsa that
is a part of our our human relationships
so let me tell you first is a Latin
American dances under that we have the
room but not the Rumba not the rumba
rumba
but rumba Samba cha-cha-cha jive paso
doble
under standard dances we have the walls
viennese waltz Foxtrot quick step and
the tango oh we take you through the
Latin American dance forms the Scourge
all dancing with me one of those dances
a couple of years back rumba it’s one of
my most favorite dances room by the
dance it’s dance of love it’s non
sensuality it comes from Cuba it has got
lots of sensual and close body reactions
you want to see the rumba
no sir hard day you know sacred holy God
said for you to grab your seats si Jami
I said bothered said yellow see your
game and
[Music]
somber dance of celebration can put the
Holi Diwali yeah we dance Samba it comes
from Brazil
lots of bodily expressions exotic
dancing because it’s from Brazil so
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
the chacha-chacha-chacha-chow is naughty
spicy it doesn’t come from Goa we are
not done by the yes done lot dot by the
Catholics probably here in our country
but it doesn’t come from go eyes Latin
American dance no country of origin
though no father no mother yes
no country of origin because it’s the
mix of different different Latin
American dance forms you see cha-cha-cha
you know what I’m talking about
music please
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
yes jibe also does not come from Goa yes
jive with the Latin American dances
fun-filled carefree and relaxed dance
was a musty Karuna ho that’s time to
[Applause]
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
because he saw just now whether it was
rumba Samba the cha-cha or the jive or
we moved to next one they all are
different you must realize the music
itself am i right
one was slow one was a little more
bounce hehehe one was more fun more
naughty and I think every human
relationship we go through goes through
these emotions as well doesn’t it it’s a
wonderful dance called the Paso Doble it
comes from Spain so dance will fight so
every relationship has fights as well if
you don’t have fight relationship don’t
become strong and that’s what I believe
yes so a relationship to become stronger
you have to go through fights that’s
when you understand each other better
and paso doble is supposed to be a
[Music]
this dance became popular when the
bullfights were abandoned in and were
discontinued in Spain people tell what
to do
we muscle enjoy the moments of bullfight
and that’s how this done to get very
very popular this dance in Paso Doble
the woman is changed many roles like in
real life as well she can sometimes is
there a flamenco lady sometimes she is
the Cape sometimes she is the bull and
the man is the matador in this drama of
the Spanish bullfight
the standard dances which is said to be
the old dances way back in the 19th
century let me begin with the first one
the walls we feel that walls is danced
by old people who probably have seen old
people dance the walls but that’s not
the fact what’s the very very new dance
if I have some time I can take it to
some history of different dance forms
I’ll tell you how walls
it was just born in 1924 not even not
even hundred years old compared to other
dance forms so now most advanced of
romance it comes from England it’s slow
dance most of us can do it it’s very
very simple
let me show you the walls
[Music]
I was dancing
to see
[Music]
to my level
and
my sweetheart slow dance dancer romance
those of you who feel that in today’s
generation yeah nowadays they think
differently they feel first Jade also is
supposed to be loved though I believe
love comes greater in life you begin
with romance so dance of romance is
walls and today’s quick generation of
quick dating and you know going around
and all that maybe you might think
differently but to me walls is the dance
of romance let’s the next one which is
the Viennese Waltz the name says comes
from Vienna South part of Germany in the
Bavaria or the Austria Austria the
regions from where Viennese Waltz
developed and this dance is double the
don’t listen to others and the beauty
[Music]
they say you’re too young to marry they
tell you to wait a few years but take my
advice and don’t tarry it’s one the
foxtrot most of us most of us have done
the basic step of Foxtrot without
realizing that it’s for short yeah
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
that certain night night we meant there
was magic abroad in the air there were
angels man that rips different different
dance forms are a part of her life but
probably we don’t realize that they
belong to a portrayed name of a patella
dance form
we all think local artists are together
dead bean salsa am i right most of us
think that way well that’s what one from
the foxtrot to the quickstep quick step
quick-step became popular after it got
mixed with Charleston so Foxtrot men got
me to Charleston quick-step was evolved
which was way back in 1930s so these are
all classic dances very very old but
non-nasa done by old people here
let’s move the next one the tango tango
has a very beautiful mood this is tango
means different in different people
those of you who are married here will
know what I’m talking about when you are
new relationship you dancer Argentinian
side of triangle when you are five is on
the line you dance
American style of tango ten years on the
line you dance the International solid
ballroom tango because tango depends on
what you think the relationship is most
time relations should become not so
interesting after few years there’s up
to us how we can make it beautiful and
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
they don’t come from Argentina a dance
which says a little arrogance in it but
it stays I still love you very much
yes that’s what happens in relationships
you are together you might be angry
might be upset but you know you love
each other very much
that’s what tango is supposed to be from
tango we finished all the 10 dances now
I want to ask you as to how these 10
dances which are named for your rumba
dance of love Samba dance celebration
cha-cha dance if not eNOS jive dance of
fun pasta dough blade and so fight
Walter dance for romance Foxtrot you saw
was just very simple and I don’t want to
give the word away to it but a very easy
way of movement to tango which says
passionate yet angry [Applause]
