guys like playing soccer too it’s just
so fun I can’t even quit it around when
I was 6 or 7 years old I transferred to
kis from Osaka I started playing soccer
because my brother does it too and I
thought it was interesting and people
say I do what my brother does and I
thought it was actually true sorry what
I like to play soccer in breaks and
recess but one day one boy came up to me
and said you don’t deserve to play
soccer because I’m a girl like what I
was really shocked and felt really sad
but I started playing with girls from
the next day but I felt really
uncomfortable and I should be able to
play with all people no matter their
gender hi students teachers and parents
think first of all thank you so much for
coming and listening to others in my
talk my name is aya say yamagishi and i
am japanese canadian and today i would
like to talk about gender and
stereotypes i first researched about
this during with my PYP exhibition last
year I honestly wanted to do about
soccer but I thought I should give it a
shot and my teacher said I should go
more deeper than that and guess what it
was like the best exhibition
presentation I ever did by the way
please raise your hand if anyone can
think of any gender stereotypes here in
okay
it seems we can think of few gender
stereotypes here in Japan but we could
find more gender stereotypes around the
world – these are common gender
stereotypes such as girls during ballet
and a boy playing soccer like other
sports – and a man working at office and
a woman working at home with her
children or a girl working girl wearing
a frilly pink dress and a boy wearing a
baseball hat and a sporty clothes girls
out there what if someone says you
cannot do something because you’re a
girl you should play girls sports and
said how would you feel now men’s out
there what if someone says you have to
do full-time job and not spend a lot of
time with your children because that’s
what moms to do now everybody how would
you feel if someone says you cannot do
something because their gender wear what
you want do jobs what you want and play
sports what you want this is a picture I
took last year it shows that I’m not the
only one who thinks gender stereotypes
are wrong this person says I am stressed
out because boys are thinking girls are
weak I don’t need to get married I don’t
need to get married I don’t need a guy
to be happy girls are girls boys are
boys they
should all have equal rights no gender
stereotypes before you want to be I am
more than a stay home mother Eco pay for
eco play I hate it when men raise their
eyebrows when I beat them it’s okay to
stay at home and it’s always okay to go
back want to go back to work so how can
we take an action and solve this kind of
problem I have an umbrella an idea how
will we all be a commitment and be more
open-minded and by this people will feel
more comfortable wearing what they want
and how act how they want what do you
guys think other action we could take in
daily lives are we can make sure boys
and girls play together and always not
to pick on or don’t laugh or bully
anyone and be more open-minded and just
be together and play and always support
your friends when your friends are in
dangerous situations like bullies now
imagine how happy we will all be if we
can do something that we want no matter
if you’re a boy or girl I hope you guys
all can fight against gender stereotypes
with me and I was I will always believe
in you guys that you guys will make your
dreams come true no matter if you’re a
boy or a girl
fly fly as high as a bird and dream and
don’t get in the ways of discriminations
and gender stereotypes stopping you and
when you always have these kind of such
kind of problems you always want to talk
with your friends or your teachers or
parents and I always talk with my
friends because I feel more comfortable
thank you so much and I hope you guys learn a lesson thank you
