Capturing the beauty of the night sky! | Ajay Talwar | TEDxDharavi

[Music]
hello everyone
Keep Calm and behold the sky I’m here to
capture some of the stars in your heart
and I’m going to tell you how to capture
some of the stars in your cameras let’s
walk through the presentation you know
these stars are so far away that they
light when it reaches it is reaching us
today it takes years and years together
this universe is so vast but yet we are
not able to go even to the other side of
the globe so easily because we have made
boundaries when we look northwards
from India we see threshold mountain my
friend lives in Tibet Jeff died he looks
southwards to see the same mountain but
do you know that we are living can you
imagine we are living under the same
stars one sky one people I used to watch
the sky from middle of Delhi and I used
to I was able to see milky ways so
easily right from the middle of the city
but today it is gone absent you just
can’t see the sky and you no wonder the
sense of wonderment is gone Himalayas
has become my refuge I travel
they are often to see the milky way to
see the stars and wonder and be one with
the universe recently in July last year
I took a trip to pangong and I’ll show
you what I saw over there I saw blowing
clouds cast a shadow on the brown scale
I heard the wind
I saw many judo fuels which are these
Tibetan gains made by travelers in eerie
and sunny places beckoning the gods
but the real fun comes at night when I
saw the sparkling reflection of stars in
the still water
[Music]
I saw bullet riders on the epic rides of
their life with terrible to remember
forever in the live
I bet their drill
I saw a star studded sky and Bill Keaney
and I also heard the roar of the fang
gong at night the wave feeding on the
shore I saw the beginning of a baby of
India on the banks of fang gong and a
place called mirage
I saw a beautiful green oasis in the
mosque ground scape of mud our streams
flowing from the snow of the peaks and
meeting the pangong lake shortly and
creating a beautiful green princess
again he rocks
I heard the stream flow from the
mountains to the lake
and I saw plenty of videos plays for the
moment these are some of my reflection
from pangong today I am here to inspire
a few of you to take up this hobby of
watching the Stars and starting to
wonder Himalayas is a good place to do
it
Hema when you go to Himalayas you are
above the dust and small of the plains
and you can really see the well normally
when we go to the hill stations we never
step out at night so you next time you
are on a hill station maybe any Hill
station you should step out and night
what you need is a camera and tripod
those are the two basic items you need
but more than that what you need is
perseverance and you need a good
location these two last two things are
very important first see whether you
must persist a good location is very
important it will give you early good
results suppose you keep on
photographing for a year from Bombay or
Delhi you will not get good results but
when you go to Himalayas your first
night out you will get good results and
that will give you an impetus I had no
impedance because the sky was available
for me but today to take up this
beautiful hobby beautiful calming hobby
you have to travel to the Himalayas now
look at this picture this is in Ladakh
as a place called Hanalei practically
you are above the half the atmosphere
and you can see stars rise as soon as
they become visible behind the mountain
this place is with a Goomba in the
middle of city of leh and you can still
see the Milky Way Himalayas is a really
good place to capture the stars in your
heart and in your camera I also invite
you to my workshop when I conduct two
times a year in the Himalayas it’s
called the sky for a
at the end of the talk I would like to
mention that my family is my pillar in
my hobby and they have joined me my son
Arjun and Nicole and my wife Neelam
who are constant companions in my
astrophotography trips so this
photograph over here has been taken with
me by my son with me and my wife in the
picture let me all just also show you I
take a little trip with my family to a
place called harto from the left that’s
me Arjun Nicole and on the right is my
wife Neelam we can’t on Hadoop peak for
two nights we never went down we cooked
our own meals and me and my family this
is what we captured from her to peak
[Music]
on the ground you can see the Hindustan
Tibet highway
and in the sky you can see the highway
of the sky the Milky Way
[Music]
and for this particular image my two
little sons stood still for 30 seconds
and I should tell you no special camera
was used a normal SLR camera nowadays
you have digital cameras which are
wooden budget and even high spice
in all of them
