yes my topic is the missing link I’m
here this morning to talk to you about
the missing link what I am a teacher
I’ve been teaching for the past 20 years
plus when they say I’m a motivational
speaker that shakes me because
motivation is like drinking alcohol yes
when you motivate people they do is like
you’ve given them alcohol they go out
there wanting to do and they can do I’ve
been teaching people how to make my
initial money and and I run their life
and that’s when I’m most passionate
about how this one around their life now
I’ve been teaching these things to
adults use in meetings seminars
conferences all over the world but to me
even those people agree with the things
that I T and even claim that they know
what they have been taught most of them
leave the place and don’t do anything
so I set out to find out what this is so
why people are not putting into practice
what they thought
believe me you it’s a source of worry
for me because for the past five years I
used to work in government I had to
leave because of the conditions I stood
my people the way I said Africa I’d
traveled about this and every time I
think about who my potentials the
opportunities in Africa and yet we are
poor why so many young people today
we’re talking about employment this and
that and that with teaching people
things to go on this and even in schools
we pass better than others like what
when my brother was talking in here said
something happened to him that he was
able to do the things that he did true
of all true if there are any
opportunities because I’ve taught
everywhere I go
then I’ve refused to leave Nigeria I’ve
refused even lift state why because I
said you never see any opportunities the
way they are in Africa problem said I
said oh yes actually the problems are
the opportunities the problems are
opportunities so I set out to find out
what found out that before a person can
do anything he or she must first become
a person who can do it yes you might
have been taught yes you might being
told everything and you said yes this is
it but we never get to do it until you
become a person who can do it
and as I looked around I discovered this
very simple I saw that some institutions
around have discovered this and so they
use it before you do their work before
you get to do anything they first make
you a person who can do it
what institution is that they are mean
every time I keep wondering where I was
not in the army believe me you add me at
the institution called the army and one
of those who is always saying I wish the
one-year national service is converted
to military training yes why because in
the military they first make you before
you do soldiers walk and that’s why when
the officers has to pee
the officer said inside and I was told
recently that even when they still you
are stupid and you say yes you must act
always and ask why is that so
put uniform on me as a civilian and tell
me I’m stupid I said what happens I
what’s the problem soldier will never do
that why they first make him a soldier
before they give him the army walk
and so
this is saying people who live my
trainings are earthlings are not able to
do what they are taught because their
trainings enable them to become people
who can do what they do

yes with people yes we are telling
people what to do and they agree with us

Oh becoming is the missing link between
know and doing putting into practice
what we have been taught practicing what
you have been introduced
and so our training programs must change
our educational system must change
everywhere I go they’re talking about
young people starting their businesses
these people there are no buffman job so
you must have your own businesses you
must do this and these young people
never get to be able to do it why they
were not trained to become enterpreneurs
we’re talking about billionaires coming
up in Africa do you know that money
would not make you rich unless you
become a rich person before money comes
away
the worst thing you can do to any person
is to give him money when he has not
become a person who can
the concept of doing the concept of
becoming before you can do I think it’s
the missing link because unless you
become you can do
everywhere I go now I realize that we
teach yes but we are concentrating on
four questions rather than fact we talk
about what to do
we talk about why we do it sometimes we
don’t even talk about why we talk about
when they do it we talk about how to do
it but we never for once talk about who
can do it and that’s where our problem
is who can do it
so what does it mean to have become a
person who can’t do a thing
it’s to have because who can do it thing
I discover all about the person

and many times many of us don’t think we
can just get know it can happen you must
become and become in stuff with
knowledge
second is data then the third is the
competencies you need to have what
competencies are skills
many times when we train people on how
to do things would start from skills is
that not true and we believe they can do
and that’s today there are so many young
people who have been trained in what we
call skill acquisition programs but they
never get to start businesses why they
lacked correct character of me young
people have been given skills even given
stuff of parts but before you know it
they sell they start of parts why they
lack character they’re not pleased
and courage competences is not only
skill of doing we have two types of
skills or competencies what we call
macro and micro skills the micro skill
is the craft ability the macro skills
are the disciplines you need to be able
to use the micro skills simple example
I’m sure many of you know tellers very
good tellers who can solve beautiful
dresses but give him money to sew things
for you he can sit down to do it people
like that
good craftsmen but no self-discipline to
be able to sit down and use that crap
that’s the problem they have micro but
no macro and most of our trainings are
only concentrating on the micro skills
that’s why we have in the situation we
have then the last but not the least the
tools we’re talking about strategy and
tactics
when you train people it made you may
have the and even a Texas but if his
strategy is wrong you can’t get anywhere
and that’s why this floor must go
