AI | Oliver Song | TEDxYouth@HuoShaYuZhen

[Applause]
artificial intelligence may seem like
the realm of science fiction but you’re
already using it every single day
AI has a huge effect on our lives and
its influence is likely to grow in the
coming years however some people argue
that there are risks of AI my name is
Oliver song and today I would like to
explain to you why the benefits of AI
outweigh the risks from how AI is
convenient to travel to how helps with
security and therefore why the risks
aren’t as great as the benefits the way
we travel is changing as quickly as how
we live we have different expectations
for planning a trip than we did a few
decades ago and today convenience
comfort and price matter more than
anything else
leisure travelers want unique
experiences while business travelers
just want to get to the destination with
minimal fuss ai is slowly changing the
traditional travel industry to help meet
these new expectations for example and
will be able to use past data to make
smart assumptions about what each
traveler prefers such as a seat location
on a flight or lodging preferences and
use that information to make bookings
that meet expectations quickly and
conveniently business travelers in
particular can benefit from this virtual
assistant service since they travel on a
frequent and consistent basis saving
time means saving money a key priority
for business travel when considering
security a single person monitoring a
number of video cameras isn’t a very
secure system people get bored easily
and keeping track of multiple monitors
can be difficult even in the best of
circumstances this is why training
computers to monitor those cameras makes
a great deal of sense
with supervised training exercises
security algorithms can take input from
security cameras and determine whether
there may be a threat if it detects a
warning sign it will alert human
security officers many systems are being
put in place where computers are being
used to determine whether a particular
transaction is fraudulent or not for
example large companies and banks are
now using AI to keep attendance tracks
where there’s no need to manually enter
the timings or punch cards just place
your finger on the device and the system
will recognize the worker the argument
that AI poses significant risks is
driven by fear fear of the unknown fear
of intelligence according to Stephen
Hawking we do have reason to be aware of
the consequences of AI including the
possibility of the end of the human race
now the rise of the machines won’t be
happening very soon after all AI is
still in its infancy the most realistic
fear today is that AI we’ll take
people’s jobs undoubtedly technology is
taking people’s jobs in droves
anytime you self-checkout in the grocery
store you might be convening into
yourself but you’re also doing something
that just 15 years ago someone else
would have been paid to do for you while
the fear of job losses is understandable
there is another point to make because
of AI many people are currently doing
jobs that weren’t available even just a
few years back software company’s not at
the scale of Google or Amazon are
already using AI and creating jobs at
the same time for example Accenture a
Munich based digital experience company
has been running AI since 2001 besides
the jobs at center that AI produces
around the area of computer programming
its customer base needs people who can
run the system as well the benefits of
AI greatly outweigh the risks ai makes
travel convenient it helps with security
surveillance and it’s producing more
jobs for people so let’s make AI more of
a reality let’s overcome our fears and
you
to embrace it because those who embrace
it from the start will inevitably end up
ahead thank you
