grandfather or even your own dog this
scratch board illustration shows what
happened when a tavern keeper named
Bridget bishop became the first person
to be formally tried and hanged for the
crime of witchcraft her fate was finally
sealed when a neighbor testified against
her he claimed that a hairy black
monster with the face of a man the body
of a monkey and the feet of a rooster
had swooped into his window bearing a
message from the devil the neighbor
rushed outside only to see Bridget
bishop walking away passed his apple
trees just then the monster reappeared
and swooped away again scattering apples
as it flew the neighbor was so terrified
that he couldn’t speak a word for three
days
